    DEPARTMENT SUMMARY: The Clinical Practice & Professional Development (CPPD) Department is a system service department that provides clinical practice support and professional development opportunities to nursing and allied health caregivers at St. Charles Health System (SCHS). CPPD also provides professional development opportunities to caregivers employed in non-clinical positions at SCHS and the Central Oregon/Pacific Northwest Communities. Specifically, CPPD delivers services through the following educational/practice service lines: Onboarding/Orientation, Competency Management, Continuing Education, Professional Role Development, Collaborative Partnerships, and the American Heart Association SCHS Training Center.

    POSITION OVERVIEW: The Nurse Residency and Transition to Practice Program Specialist is responsible for overseeing, coordinating, and ensuring education design standards are met in the Vizient/AACN Nurse Residency Program (NRP), the Nurse Fellowship programs, the Preceptor Development programs, and other identified programs specific to transition to practice throughout all participating practice settings and/or sites at St. Charles.

    The Program Specialist will ensure stability in program implementation and evaluation. As new programs are created or cohorts continue to expand, the Program Specialist may assist with operational coordination to support the work. This position does not directly manage any other caregivers.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:

    Oversees (develops, designs, implements, coordinates, evaluates, and consults on) the Nurse Residency and Transition to Practice programs to meet clinical education needs of the organization.

    Collaborates with CPPD staff, the Nurse Residency Program Advisory Board, and nursing leadership on curriculum.

    Regularly reviews data and program outcomes to identify areas for improvement.

    Coordinates the entry of the graduate nurse residents into the programs, including requisite assessment, pre-clinical and clinical orientation, and the competency verification process to facilitate integration into the health system.

    Upholds the Vizient/AACN Nurse Residency Program philosophies, policies, and objectives for Nurse Residents to facilitate their transition to practice into the nursing workforce and ensures compliance with requirements and standards of external regulatory and accrediting organizations.

    Participates in Vizient/AACN Residency Program conference calls, seminars, advisory, and work groups to create a professional network, share expertise and experiences. Collaborates with system leadership to obtain ANCC PTAP accreditation.

    Actively participates in committee appointments.

    Serves as an educational consultant working with intra- and inter-disciplinary teams to brainstorm, problem-solve, and participate in projects relating to policy, procedure, program development and strategic planning.

    Actively participates in strategic planning, ad-hoc projects, and educational activities as assigned by the Clinical Practice & Professional Development department.

    May perform additional duties of similar complexity within the organization, as required or assigned.

    EDUCATION:

    Required: Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited college or university.

    Preferred: Master's degree in nursing or nursing education from a nationally accredited program.

    LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION:

    Required: Current Oregon RN license. AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider certification.

    Preferred: National certification as a nurse educator (CNE) or in nursing professional development (NPD).

    EXPERIENCE:

    Required: Four (4) years of progressively responsible acute care or critical nursing experience. Two (2) years experience in a clinical leadership or education role. Education or experience in adult learning principles.

    Preferred: Five (5) years experience with education, program management, oversight of practice settings, or mentoring in a nursing or health care setting. Experience in a nursing leadership role, or nursing education role.

    PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT:

    Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required to perform the job safely.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    Continually (75% or more): Use of clear and audible speaking voice and the ability to hear normal speech level.

    Frequently (50%): Sitting, standing, walking, lifting 1-10 pounds, keyboard operation.

    Occasionally (25%): Bending, climbing stairs, reaching overhead, carrying/pushing, or pulling 1-10 pounds, grasping/squeezing.

    Rarely (10%): Stooping/kneeling/crouching, lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling 11-15 pounds, operation of a motor vehicle.

    Never (0%): Climbing ladder/stepstool, lifting/carrying/pushing, or pulling 25-50 pounds, ability to hear whispered speech level.
