    Default job background
    Description
    Salford City Council Technical Services

We're looking to recruit a number of technical roles including highways engineers, landscape architects, transport planners and drainage engineers.

Welcome letter from Shoaib Mohammed, Director, Technical Services

Salford's growth strategy is transforming the city by investing in iconic buildings, new infrastructure and public realm, houses, education, health facilities, businesses and shops.

It is also investing in its transport infrastructure, both to improve connectivity and to support the sustainable growth of the city.

Salford is connecting the city and its residents to the growing opportunities in and around the area and helping to secure jobs; Salford is growing by capitalising on its unique identity, assets and entrepreneurial skills to provide real benefits for its growing population.

Salford is a leading partner in Greater Manchester's ambitious Bee Network that represents a vision for a fully integrated London-style transport system which will join together buses, trams, cycling, walking and rail.

Our plan is to revolutionise travel across the city-region, making active travel the number one choice for travelling to work, to school and to the shops.

But we can only do this if trips by foot or by bike are a safe and pleasant experience.

Salford has transformed key parts of its infrastructure already with the delivery of high-quality rapid bus transit routes and ground breaking active travel schemes.

However as our city continues to grow there are many more schemes we need to deliver to achieve our vision for a more sustainable transport network.

Salford's pipeline of schemes represents a fantastic opportunity for applicants to develop their technical skills whilst helping to transform our transport network for the benefit of our communities.

    Senior Group Leader in

    Highway Design:
"Having worked in Local Government for over 20 years and starting my career as an apprentice I enjoy being able to make a difference in Salford and playing a part in the city's transformation.
"Seeing a project through from conception to completion and being fully involved at all stages is a privilege I've been able to experience over the years, and now I'm able to support others in doing the same. The continuous training and development offered has allowed me to progress both academically and professionally throughout my career with the full support of my managers."
(Why work for Salford Technical Services
This is a fantastic time to join our Technical Services.

However, there is still much more to come with the future pipeline identifying the continued expansion of these core urban areas alongside significant opportunities for local towns and neighbourhoods to be transformed.

The council's multidisciplinary Technical Services team is a key driver of this growth, playing a vital role in the forging of successful partnership arrangements with both public and private sector parties in pursuit of an ambitious placemaking agenda.

It is within this context of sustained growth that we are now seeking to grow our Technical Services.

You will join a vibrant service and work on major prestigious infrastructure projects within Salford enabling you to advance your career, whilst giving you the freedom to achieve personal growth and development.

We will provide you with the opportunities to enable you to succeed and support you to reach your potential. This will be achieved by providing you with personalised training to work towards academic and professional qualifications.

Salford City Council prides itself on providing excellent training through professional bodies and continues to support successful candidates across all professional qualifications by being an approved training organisation for many including the Institution of Civil Engineers.

We also encourage and support all members of the team involved in construction activities to become accredited NEC4 Project Managers or Supervisors.

Salford City Council has vast technical expertise in-house across all stages of an infrastructure project including commissioning client; detailed design team (Highways, Landscape, Structures, Street Lighting, Traffic, Road Safety); contract administration; construction supervision and contractor.

This allows rotation of trainees across all disciplines to gain invaluable experience to allow you to be successful when applying for professional qualifications.
