    IT Infrastructure Engineer

    Summary
    The IT Infrastructure Engineer for Information Technology Services is responsible for the hands-on support of server systems, hands-on support of network switch infrastructure and assisting the IT Infrastructure Architect. The IT Infrastructure Engineer for Information Technology Services will act as a hands-on technical resource for infrastructure technical projects. This position will also be responsible for the administration and support of: the city's Server and Storage Area Network Hardware Systems, Server Software, Network Hardware, Server Virtualization Systems, Cloud based Server Hosting Systems, Firewall Appliances, Server Backup Systems, Cloud based Server backup Systems and other systems as assigned. Duties and Responsibilities
    • Assist the IT Infrastructure Architect
    • Administration and hands-on support of the city's:
    • enterprise Server & Storage Area Network Systems.
    • enterprise Network and VOIP Phone System Equipment/Software.
    • Firewall Appliances
    • Cloud based Server Hosting and Backup/Disaster Recovery System.
    • Microsoft Active Directory System
    • VMWARE Server Virtualization Systems
    • Horizon View Virtual Desktop System
    • Work on IT Projects assigned, occasionally supervising vendor resources as needed, keeping stakeholders IT Infrastructure Architect and Manager of Information Technology informed regularly of status.
    • As needed, supervise Vendor resources in completion of IT Infrastructure support responsibilities.
    • Conduct maintenance and repair on various IT Infrastructure systems, these may include: computer servers, computer network hardware systems, voice or data network communication systems, and information technology security systems/firewalls.
    • Work with and supervise vendor partners/resources as needed to implement repairs.
    • Engage in the hands-on deployment, programming adjustment, and integration of network and server systems, including: upgrades/adjustments to VMWARE server virtualization systems, computer file storage systems, firewall appliances, web filtering appliances, application hosting servers, and Microsoft Active Directory Domain Servers.
    • Be on the 24/7 on-call rotation as a resource for all IT Infrastructure Systems support. Provide on-call 24/7 support as required during system outages
    • Under general direction, design and implement short- and long-term strategic plans to ensure Data Center and IT Infrastructure capacity meets existing and future requirements.
    • Design IT infrastructure and application solutions based on general direction from the IT Infrastructure Architect and collected requirements from customer stakeholders.
    • Conduct research and make recommendations on products, services, protocols, and standards in support of all Data Center and IT Infrastructure procurement and development efforts.
    • Test all aspects of network performance and provide network performance statistics and reports; develop strategies for maintaining and improving network performance.
    • Test IT Infrastructure component performance and provide performance statistics and reports; develop strategies for maintaining and improving IT Infrastructure performance.
    • Practice IT asset management, including maintenance of component inventory and related documentation.
    • As needed provide detailed training for IT Department staff in regard to Technology
    • Infrastructure support.
    • Engage in General IT Support as needed backing up the IT Support Desk.
    Minimum Qualifications/Requirements

    Education
    Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field

    Experience
    5 years of work experience in the integration of IT Infrastructure Hardware & Software Systems including: Servers, Storage Area Networks, Firewall Appliances, Network Switch Solutions, VOIP Phone Systems, VMware Server Systems and Microsoft Windows Servers.
    • Must have experience with VMware, Microsoft Server and Microsoft Active Directory.
    • Must have experience with Dell Servers, Dell Storage Area Networks (EqualLogic, Unity, Powerstore).
    • Must have experience with CISCO enterprise switches.
    • Must have experience with enterprise level IT Infrastructure Systems and Security Appliances/Firewalls.
    • Must have experience with cloud-based server hoisting systems, including Amazon Web Services.
    Knowledge, Skill and Abilities
    • Ability to train end users on the use of IT systems.
    • Thorough working knowledge of enterprise level IT Security Appliances/Firewalls.
    • Ability to coordinate application integration projects.
    • Ability to work with and manage vendor partners to accomplish integration or/and support of enterprise level application or infrastructure systems.
    • Highly proficient with Microsoft Office including advanced Excel functions such as macros and pivot tables.
    • Ability to provide general IT Support.
    • Strong oral and written communications skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
    • Ability to balance and prioritize multiple demands and deadlines.
    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Excellent communication skills; including the ability to communicate clearly and concisely across multiple audiences and partners, including the ability to explain analytical outcomes and technical roadblocks in business terms.
    • Ability to work well under pressure, with proven experience working on complex, international, large-scale, time-critical projects.
    • Ability to be flexible and versatile in nature, able to take on challenges while maintaining tact and professionalism.
    Special Requirements:

    Must be available to work on site, Full-time Be on the 24/7 on-call rotation as a resource for all IT Infrastructure Systems support. Supervision Required:
    The IT Infrastructure Engineer for Information Technology Services will be under the general supervision of the Manager of Information Technology or their designee. Application Submission :

    1. Application Review
    The Civil Service Commission is responsible for reviewing the applications to determine if they are complete and meet the minimum requirements for the position. The Commission will review all the applications for the position during their bi-weekly meetings following the closing date of the position.

    If an application is accepted by the Civil Service Commission, then the applicant will be notified in writing and will be informed of the next step in the process. If the Commission does not accept an application, the applicant will also be notified in writing.

    2. Testing
    Once an application is accepted by the Civil Service Commission, the applicant will be notified in writing of the next steps in the testing process. Each test phase must be passed in order to continue to the next level of the selection process. The examination for this position will consist of the following parts:

    PARTS WEIGHT
    ORAL EXAM 100%

    It is the applicant's responsibility to adhere to the City's testing schedule . Unless otherwise stated, there will be no make-up examinations or alternative examination dates.

    If an applicant fails the test, the applicant will be immediately eliminated from consideration for this hiring process.

    3. The Eligibility List

    A passing average score of "70" on the above test will place an applicant on the Eligibility List in rank order. The rank on this list is established according to the scores on the exam(s) indicated above plus any additional applicable seniority points awarded. The resulting list is then certified by the Civil Service Commission and will be used to fill vacancies as they occur, as per Civil Service Rules.

    If the list is not exhausted, it remains in effect for one year. However, the Commission can decide to extend an eligibility list for one additional year.

    Participation in the testing and recruitment process and/or placement on an eligibility list does not guarantee a continuance in the remainder of the hiring process nor does it imply or constitute an offer of employment.

    4. Additional Testing Requirements

    Once the eligibility list is certified, depending on the number of vacancies, candidates with the highest ranking on the list will be interviewed by a panel of City Officials.
