    Job summary

    Anexciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated traineepaediatrician (ST4 or above) with an interest in service development andsimulation to join Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust as one of two PaediatricSimulation Fellows for Leeds Childrens Hospital (LCH).

    TheSimulation Fellows organise, run and feedback weekly simulation sessions indifferent departments, as well as supporting regional courses.

    TheSimulation Fellows will greatly develop their teaching and management skills,with the opportunity to access further training. They will gain experience inleadership and service development.

    Thereis also the opportunity to work on relevant quality improvement projects whichcan change practice at LCH.

    Main duties of the job

    TheSimulation Fellows role will include:

    Running regular in-situ simulationsessions across LCH including the MDT and provide debrief and feedbackfollowing the sessions and disseminate learning points to the widerdepartments.

    Helping with sim faculty developmentthroughout LCH

    Helping with induction in particularskills teaching sessions.

    Working with the other sim fellows inthe trust to create some collaborative sessions, team working and improveinterdepartmental working.

    Attending human factors and debrieftraining

    Acting as Education Leads for JuniorDoctors Forum and work with the chair and co-chair of the JDF.

    Helping on regional sim courses YIPSand HELP which have sessions run in Leeds

    Involvement in quality improvement inLCH

    Deliveringon call commitment in general paediatrics or neonatology

    About us

    LeedsChildrens Hospital has an annual budget of £103 million, inpatient bed base of286 beds, and delivers 102,000 outpatient appointments and 20,000 inpatient andday case episodes. The majority of this activity is on the Leeds GeneralInfirmary site, however there is a Neonatal unit based on the St James Hospitalsite.

    Aswell as general paediatric medicine, LCH provides subspeciality care (oncology,hepatology and cardiology among others), neonatology and general/specialistpaediatric surgery.

    Thesimulation team work across all these areas and

    wealso work with other departments such as maternity and emergency medicine. Wehave worked hard to create strong working relationships across LCH and goodteamwork across the MDT is integral to what we do. We also have a focus onquality improvement and using simulation to learn from incidents.

    Anexciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated traineepaediatrician (ST4 or above) with an interest in service development andsimulation to join Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust as one of two PaediatricSimulation Fellows for Leeds Childrens Hospital (LCH).

    ThePaediatric Simulation Fellows will receive support locally in the Trust from amentor/supervisor who has an interest in simulation. The Simulation Fellowswill be encouraged to attend courses relevant to medical teaching andsimulation and to enhance their knowledge and understanding during this post.They will be expected to organise, run and feedback weekly simulation sessionsin different departments, with the opportunity to work on relevant qualityimprovement projects.

    Bothposts will have relative flexibility allowing successful candidates to developtheir own interests as well, meaning much of the post is self-directed. Thereis an expectation that successful applicants will present their work at varioussimulation meetings and national specialty meetings RCPCH, BAPM. This postwill be non-clinical during daytime working with a full on-call commitment togeneral paediatrics (September starter) or neonatology (March starter).

    This post will be non-clinical duringdaytime working with a full on-call commitment to general paediatrics orneonatology (pro rate for LTFT).

    Applicationsare open to trainee paediatricians:

    At ST4 or above in the paediatricrun-through training programme

    Working full time orless-than-full-time

    With a national training number

    With full GMC registration

    Ideallyapplicants would also have completed GIC and be an instructor on NLS/APLS orhave evidence of experience in teaching sim.

    Thisis a fixed-term role for 12 months. The role would be undertaken out oftraining and therefore, this post is likely to extend the trainees completionof training (CCT) date. This should be discussed with the trainees educationalsupervisor and training programme director.

  • Paediatric Speciality trainee doctor ST4 level or above at the time of commencement of post
  • Must have completed RCPCH membership exams at the time of application

  • APLS or EPALS or equivalent must be valid
