    JOB DETAILS

    About Us

Startup Coalition (formerly Coadec) is an independent advocacy group that serves as the policy voice for technology-led startups and scaleups in the UK. Startup Coalition was founded by entrepreneurs, for entrepreneurs, and fights for a policy environment that enables early-stage British tech companies to grow, scale and compete globally. We've delivered with successes from the design and establishment of the Future Fund and Scaleup Visa to the SEIS expansion and the bailout of SVB UK.

    The Role

We're looking for someone to lead our work on access to capital, investment and tax for startups and investors in the UK as well as potentially overseeing other areas of our work depending on your experience. You'll be blending great research and policy work with top stakeholder management. You'll be the subject matter expert at Startup Coalition for a key pillar of our work reporting to our Deputy Policy Director.

Success looks like the delivery of compelling campaigns backed by evidence and stories from the startup ecosystem, as well as building our base of support for the programmes you're responsible for and - more than anything - securing the policy changes that deliver for startups.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

    • Leading our policy work on access to finance for startups. You'll be delivering on a range of policy work across the breadth of critical issues related to the venture capital market, institutional capital allocation, R&D tax credits, investment incentives and more. We need someone who can think about, develop and produce startup-friendly policy in an informal and engaging way that entrepreneurs, investors, politicians, journalists and policy experts can all relate to.
    • Ensuring our voice is heard. Our work only has impact if it's listened to and delivered. This means directly engaging policy stakeholders, making sure that all relevant Government and regulatory consultations are responded to, that Startup Coalition is featured in relevant press, and that we are represented at conferences and events.
    • Managing relationships with our Investor stakeholders. Investors are a key part of our work, and the Head of Economic Policy will support the executive team in building relationships with investors, delivering policy insight and support, and interacting with investor portfolios. This will also involve event and project management.
    • Chipping in on everything else. We run a small operation, so everyone works together to deliver great policy work that helps achieve a policy environment that enables tech startups and scaleups to grow and scale effectively.

    Experience and Skills

This role is suitable for someone who is:

    • happy working at pace, can learn fast and who can take the initiative.
    • approachable and comfortable spending a lot of their time talking to people.
    • a believer in the power of early-stage tech entrepreneurs to improve lives.
    • as much of a political nerd as we all are...

It would be an added bonus if you:

    • have worked on tech policy before
    • are familiar with venture-backed tech companies, their business model and have some understanding of investment in them works

    Further Details

Interviews will be on a rolling basis. We reserve the right to interview and appoint at any time. The start date for the role is ASAP. If you have less experience than you think is ideal - apply anyway - we would consider slightly different roles for the right candidate even if this role isn't the exact right fit.
