- Initiate, deliver and evaluate specialist care for patients requiring ECLS, according to clinical guidelines and Trust polices.
- Provide guidance and clinical expertise to support the MDT in the management of patients within critical care.
- Maintain accurate, comprehensive, up-to-date documentation, consistent with Trust policy and wider legislation.
- Act as a liaison for families, providing information and identifying appropriate support, as needed.
- Demonstrate critical thinking showing awareness and understanding of complex clinical situations.
- Provide support and work with the critical care nursing team when rostered or as requested.
- Implement ECMO standards based on local, national, and international principles and recommendations.
- Assist with management of ECMO supplies and emergency equipment checks.
- Participate in ECMO retrieval and transport of patients when rostered.
- Successfully complete ECMO training programme and associated competencies within a set timeframe.
- Aware of common ECMO emergencies and possess the necessary skills to manage these with confidence.
- Provide supervision and act as a clinical resource to support and empower all grades of staff in their professional development.
- Assist in the delivery and evaluation of the ECMO education programme.
- Participate in evaluating the quality and effectiveness of the patient care pathway.
- Contribute to the review and development of clinical protocols, guidelines, and audits to provide effective evidence-based care and to enhance patient safety.
- Maintain ECMO accreditation ensuring required ECMO competencies and 'pump' hours are achieved and ECMO training is undertaken.

Job overview
Here at Barts Heart Centre we have 10 cath labs that provide treatment for patients undergoing a variety of elective procedures, interventional, electrophysiology and TAVI. Our cardiac catheter labs also support our nationally recognised emergency heart attack, arrhythmia and structural pathways. We also provide specialist cardiology services for heart failure, endocarditis, grown up congenital heart and inherited cardiac conditions.
You will have an opportunity to rotate internally between Cardiology Intervention, Electrophysiology & Structural in order to develop a full range of skills and be supported with in house training.
We have created exciting opportunities for experienced Cath Lab nurses to develop clinically in advanced nursing practices such as Implantable Loop recorders Implantations and Nurse-Led Radial Access.
You will need significant experience in cardiology cath lab and be able to demonstrate advanced clinical knowledge. You will be expected to take an active role in helping us to continuously improve on our patient centred care.
Main duties of the job
Along with senior team facilitate clinical and organisational practice changes as required.
