    Policy Adviser, Sustainability

    London- Hybrid working

    Murray McIntosh are proud to have partnered with the British Retail Consortium to support the recruitment of a key hire, a Policy Advisor within their Food and Sustainability team.

The BRC is the industry's leading body, recognised for its powerful campaigning and influence within government. Working with members to drive positive change, they use their expertise to create an economic environment that enables businesses to thrive and consumers to benefit.

    The Policy Advisor, Sustainability will take the lead on developing positions on issues including resource and waste policy, circular economy, packaging, and product sustainability. You'll be working with leading retailers, representing the BRC with Government and stakeholder groups in all the UK nations

    Key responsibilities:

    Managing and developing the CSR Community group for members, covering all environmental, ethical and sustainable issues

    Developing and promoting the BRC's sustainability initiatives, including the Climate Action Roadmap, retail's net zero strategy

    Ensuring BRC members are up to date on sustainability-related issues through marketing communications

    Representing the BRC to external audiences and specialist media

    Maintaining a strong network of key officials and stakeholders within the UK to build alliances designed to deliver pragmatic and evidenced-based measures to safeguard the environment

    You'll need:

    to be a sustainability specialist, with hands-on experience in an environmental/sustainability policy context

    to demonstrate credibility in order to represent the BRC to senior external contacts, including Government officials

    to demonstrate the ability to debate and challenge constructively, using a range of communication and influencing skills

    to be a trusted and pro-active team player, supporting team colleagues able to bring in new thinking and initiative to the team
