    We are looking to recruit innovative midwives who are passionate about promoting normality and are dedicated to providing evidence based care.

    Here in Oxfordshire, we offer women and healthcare professionals a unique set up of our Maternity Services where around 7500 babies are born annually.

    We have 4 stand-alone Midwifery Led Birth units within the county based at Banbury, Chipping Norton, Wantage and Wallingford as well as offering home births to all areas.

    There is also an integrated birth unit where around 10% of birthing people choose to go in labour.

    As a large Tertiary hospital, the John Radcliffe offers a large Delivery Suite with an en-suite birthing pool room, 3 Maternity theatres and a specific Maternity Recovery Ward.

    There are specialist services such as the Fetal and Maternal Medicine Team and Bereavement Team.

    Midwives employed within the service have the opportunity to rotate to all our units/departments providing care to both low and high risk women.

    Newly qualified midwives will participate in a 12 month preceptorship program designed by our team of Practice Development midwives.

    The post is open to preceptee midwives who will have NMC registration by the as well as existing band 5/6 midwives.

    SPONSORSHIP IS NOT AVAILABLE THROUGH THIS ROLE* Working as a midwifery practitioner to: Provide continuity of care, advice and support throughout pregnancy, labour and the postnatal period.

    Be responsible for the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care within the practice area and to provide and maintain high standards of midwifery care.

    Accept responsibility for own personal and professional development .

    To contribute to the management of the practice area by accepting delegated responsibility from senior colleagues.

    Assist in promoting Clinical Risk Management within the practice area.

    For those working with us, we have a named Maternity Psychologist 3 days a week to support all staff, as well as 15 Professional Midwifery Advocates.

    For those wishing to develop their careers and skills, we have a core Practice Development Team who can guide staff with their career options and development opportunities.

    Fulfil the role of midwife, as defined by the World Health Organisation and the NMCMidwives Rules and Code of Practice.


    Assess, plan, implement and evaluate midwifery care, to a defined group of womentaking into account the standards and philosophies of the county-wide Maternity Services.

    Accurately document all care given. Provide evidence of achieving the consolidation of clinical skills and the development ofadditional practice skills and knowledge Participate in and contribute to programmes of care to develop parenting skills andknowledge Evaluate practice by utilising of evidence based practice and participating in research

    With support of a senior colleague act as advocate for women and their families to ensureappropriate care. Participate, where appropriate, in the on-call rota for the service. Develop ability to take charge on a shift by shift basis. Provide professional support to other members of the multi-disciplinary team.

    Version 4 March 2020Professional Development, Education & Research: Act as a supervisor to Maternity Support Workers and undergraduate students. Act as a preceptor Supervise Maternity Support Workers and help in the identification of their trainingneeds. Participate in the setting of standards of care using valid evidence-based practice.

    Contribute towards the continuing development of professional practice within theclinical area embracing new ideas and changes for the benefit of women and theirfamilies.

    Inform the ward manager/team leader if there are insufficient resources available toprovide safe care.

    Demonstrate the ability to record data on the maternity system and to be able to retrievedata results from OUHFT information systems.

    Accept responsibility for own personal and professional growth and maintaining a recordof professional development experiences. Participate in formal and informal review of own performance with your preceptor, teamleader, ward manager and peer group. Contribute towards the collection of data for local, regional or national reports.
