    Job summary

    The Named Professional for Midwifery Safeguarding will ensure the delivery of a comprehensive strategic and operational vision for the continued development and delivery of statutory and contractual safeguarding arrangements and provision within the Maternity Units, community midwifery services and the wider Trust to ensure that the Maternity service meets its responsibilities to safeguard and protect babies, children, and young people.

    They will provide highly expert advice and support to the Midwifery Team about all aspects of safeguarding work with reference to Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), mental health, domestic abuse, substance, and alcohol misuse. learning disability and autism.

    Working in partnership with other Trust Named Safeguarding Professionals, safeguarding operational leads and other internal and external stakeholders, the post holder will ensure the organization provides an effective service to safeguard babies, young people, and their families within our care.

    Main duties of the job

    The post holder will ensure that safeguarding provision continues to develop according to need and is delivered in an evidence-based, child/family focused manner in accordance with the National and Statutory Safeguarding agendas.

    Provide highly specialist midwifery safeguarding advice within the Trust, working as an expert to support and facilitate the safeguarding of unborn babies/babies, in collaboration with other named professionals and multi professionals' teams. Information and advice maybe extremely sensitive or complex in nature.Receive, analyze, and process information in relation to safeguarding situations resulting in formulation of risk analysis based on available information, and use this information to provide advice and guidance to clinicians regarding appropriate action which is in line with national, local and Trust policies and procedures.

    They will take leadership in developing and implementing the Safeguarding training strategy within Maternity and assist with other safeguarding professionals across the Trust in the delivery of training to meet all educational/training requirements, including training of Consultant and Senior Obstetricians and Gynecologists', provide supervision in safeguarding, and lead the development of clinical practice guidelines and safeguarding related audits for Maternity.

    Job responsibilities

  • Work to introduce systems and processes that will empower Health Professionals to act independently and autonomously to protect children.
  • Accountable to The Trust for the delivery of safeguarding children and vulnerable adults agenda within Maternity
  • In collaboration with other safeguarding professionals lead the delivery of a comprehensive vision for the continued development of safeguarding arrangements and provision within the
  • Work closely and collaboratively with the Band 7 Maternity Safeguarding Professional on all aspects of maternity safeguarding work, covering priority elements of the role in their absence
  • Ensure that effective, timely communication both internally and externally, compliments multidisciplinary/Interagency working.
  • Ensure that there is appropriate management of risk notifications and that pre-birth assessment and planning in place to safeguard children and vulnerable people with effective communication of recommendations of aftercare arrangements for the newborn baby and family support.   • With colleagues maintain and keep up to date Safeguarding Partnership quality assurance dashboards and internal databases/folders that allow for scrutiny of practice and the collation of practice themes and trends from which to inform the Partnership and Trust Executives of the safeguarding direction of travel
  • Monitor performance against Care Quality Commission standards and where appropriate initiate action to ensure these standards are both achieved and maintained
  • Provide 1:1 and group safeguarding supervision and advice to relevant health professionals in line with the Trust safeguarding supervision
  • In partnership with other safeguarding professionals, develop and facilitate the safeguarding children training strategy and participate in the delivery of training to meet all education/training requirements for maternity
  • In collaboration with the Named Nurse for Safeguarding Children & Adults, ensure that recommendations from serious case reviews and local case reviews are
  • Analyse and process information in relation to safeguarding situations, formulation of risk analysis based on available information, provision of advice and guidance to clinicians regarding appropriate action which is in line with national, local and Trust policies and procedures.   • Network effectively and keep updated with proposed National changes to Legislation and local partnership priorities to ensure the Trust is responsive to the shifting safeguarding landscape
  • To attend complex child protection meetings as required, provide assessment of risk, promote inter agency decision making and facilitate multi agency working to safeguard
  • Produce high quality quarterly and annual safeguarding reports that provide assurance to the Trust Board that the Trust is meeting its statutory, regulatory, and contractual obligations and is appropriately safeguarding children ensuring risks are escalated and effectively mitigated against

  • Person Specification

    Qualifications

    Essential

  • Registered Midwife (Active NMC Registration) ? Educated to master's degree level qualificatio
  • Mentorship/Preceptorship trained
  • Maintain portfolio of on-going continuous professional development
  • Recent Level 3 safeguarding training
  • Desirable

  • Accredited teaching /training qualification
  • Post Grad Certification/Diploma in Law
  • Recognised further qualifications in safeguarding and/or the Mental Capacity Act
  • Recent Level 4 safeguarding training ? Qualification in facilitating
  • Experience

    Essential

  • Substantial midwifery experience at Band 7 or above
  • Significant experience working with children and families where there are safeguarding concerns.
  • Experience of attending complex child protection meetings
  • Experience of inter-agency and partnership working
  • Experience of designing, developing, and delivering face to face training modules
  • Desirable

  • Experience of producing reports for court
  • Experience with dealing with safeguarding adult incidents
  • Experience of designing, developing, and delivering virtual/ELearning training modules
  • Experience of safeguarding partnership policy and procedure development
  • Knowledge

    Essential

  • Evidence of leadership skills with the ability to influence, motivate and inspire team members and provide effective challenge as required
  • Ability to prioritise, manage time effectively and work under pressure with conflicting priorities
