    Description

    St Paul's Cathedral have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Project Manager to lead on events marking the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War and the 60th anniversary of the state funeral of Sir Winston Churchill.

    During the Second World War, St Paul's became renowned as an enduring national symbol of survival and resistance, with Prime Minister Winston Churchill declaring that it should be 'Saved at all costs'. Its remarkable survival was due, in no small part, to the dedication and bravery of the St Paul's Watch, an extraordinary team of volunteers who worked in shifts day and night to protect the Cathedral from incendiaries and fire. On 30th January 1965, St Paul's Cathedral hosted the state funeral of Sir Winston Churchill, which was attended by Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The monarch's presence at a state funeral was unprecedented, and Her Majesty and members of the Royal Family were led in procession to their seats by the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Bishop of London and the Cathedral Chapter. The Churchill Gates were erected in the Crypt to mark the occasion.

    2025 marks the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War and the 60th anniversary of the state funeral of Sir Winston Churchill, which was held at St Paul's. The Cathedral intends to hold a number of events during the year to mark both of these key anniversaries. These will include, but are not limited to: -

    • a high profile Special Service in the Cathedral
    • a series of talks and lectures
    • a photographic exhibition
    • engagement activities for schools and families
    • receptions for significant guests.

    The Project Manager will be responsible for leading this project, from identifying requirements through to execution and evaluation, whilst identifying scope, budget, plans and risk and working collaboratively across the organisation.

    Main duties :-

    • Liaising effectively across all directorates and departments of the Cathedral, particularly with the Liturgical Office, Special Events, both the Adult and Schools and Family Learning teams, the Visitor Engagement team including the Collections department, the Development team, the Head of Marketing and Communications, and the Works department.
    • Identifying and coordinating with key external stakeholders (for example, the City of London or the Imperial War Museum) to align our plans with theirs.
    • Working with internal stakeholders to identify project requirements, delivery timelines, costs and risks.
    • Developing detailed project plans and revising and adapting based on changing needs and requirements.
    • Coordinating internal and external resources to ensure that projects adhere to scope, schedule, and budget.
    • Identifying and assigning project tasks.
    • Monitoring project performance to ensure timely delivery.
    • Evaluating the impact of the project and producing a final report.
    • Compiling and submitting project status reports.
    • Presenting updates to appropriate management and escalating issues, as necessary.
    • Supporting and/or chairing project board/committee or similar meetings
