    Job summary

    Are you an experienced nurse with a background in emergency, acute or primary care?

    Our event nurses work as part of our multidisciplinary teams providing assessment and treatment of patients at public events across Wales.

    Working alongside our first aid teams, ambulance crews, paramedics and doctors you will provide high quality clinical care at large public events ranging from festivals, to concerts, to sporting events and many more.

    Event work allows an opportunity to use your nursing skills outside of a traditional setting, gaining more experience and reducing the impact on the NHS.

    Main duties of the job

    Our event nurses work as part of our multidisciplinary teams providing assessment and treatment of patients at public events across Wales.

    Working alongside our first aid teams, ambulance crews, paramedics and doctors you will provide high quality clinical care at large public events ranging from festivals, to concerts, to sporting events and many more.

    To undertake the role you will be required to evidence competency against our event nurse scope.

    About us

    We've supported people and communities across Wales since 1880. Since March 2020, we have worked closely with Welsh Ambulance Service NHS Trust (WAST) and NHS Wales. We continue performing a major role in strengthening community resilience and ensuring people are trained in first aid. We fulfil key front-line roles to support vulnerable people, in addition to offering the opportunity for people from all backgrounds to develop their personal skills and confidence to support our charitable and income generating services whilst assisting their own career development.

    As a charity, we partner with the Welsh Ambulance Service NHS Trust and NHS Health Boards, providing ambulance support services in addition to delivering our Falls Response maintain our reputation as being the leading organisation to deliver first aid training to both commercial businesses and local-based communities including schools throughout Wales.

    We also give support to the people of Wales through: Medical duties at events, Community based divisions, Falls Response Service & Community First Responders (CFR)

    Our focus is developing new, innovative services to help us achieve our mission of saving lives and enhancing the health and wellbeing of communities in Wales.     Job responsibilities

    Job Summary:

    As an event nurse you will be part of the medical provision at operational events covered by St. John Ambulance Cymru. You will often be the initial healthcare professional to attend patients in the pre-hospital setting, usually working within a treatment centre, first aid post or on an ambulance. You will be expected to work autonomously where appropriate and often alongside a wider multidisciplinary team.

    Volunteering is at the core of the charity and at most events you will be assisted by St. John Ambulance Cymru volunteers. You will be required to provide effective clinical leadership, development, and mentorship to other personnel.

    All Event Nurses are asked to familiarise themselves with the SJAC Nursing scope of practise and the SJAC Nursing passport ( attached).

    Core Duties:

  • Undertake a full range of nursing duties in line with professional scope of practice, RCN guidelines and St. John Ambulance Cymru policy and procedures.
  • As appropriate, assess, manage and discharge patients.
  • Where required, administer medications in line with professional scope of practice and in adherence with St. John Ambulance Cymru medicines management policy.
  • Meet the standards set out in the St. John Ambulance Cymru healthcare professionals and clinical practice policy and completion of the Nurse/Midwife passport.
  • Maintain up to date with continual professional development and the requirements of the HCPC.
  • Maintain ability to operate in line with HCPC standards of proficiency.
  • Maintain accurate clinical records in line with St. John Ambulance Cymru policy and procedures.
  • Drive the organisations vehicles in accordance with the vehicle and driving policy, where appropriate.
  • On commencement of duty, check all relevant equipment to ensure it is functioning correctly and ready for use, report any defects to the event manager.
  • Assist with the induction and mentorship of new staff and volunteers as required.
  • Maintain professional registration with the health and care professions council.
  • Carry out any other reasonable tasks requested by St. John Ambulance Cymru management.
  • Maintain and hold a current Enhanced DBS certificate
  • Adhere to St John Ambulance Cymru Values, Mission and Vision set by the organisation.
  • Person Specification

    Qualifications

    Essential

  • Registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) as a Nurse or Midwife and have evidence of current revalidation.
  • Immediate Life Support skills.
  • First Aid skills to the level of an Enhanced First Aider or willingness to gain on appointment.
  • Team management experience.
  • Experience as a trainer.
  • Evidence of CPD activity within the previous 12 months
  • Safeguarding Level 1 and 2 for adults & children
  • Desirable

  • Recent experience of working in an NHS clinical/leadership role of Band 7 or above
  • Leadership & Management Qualification
  • ALS/ APLS/ ATLS/ PHTLS provider qualification(s).
  • Welsh Speaking
  • Experience

    Essential

  • Minimum three years clinical experience in a registered nursing role.
  • Experience of developing and maintaining processes that support and deliver regulatory compliance.
  • Experience of building strong and effective partnerships with key stakeholders

  • Desirable

  • Knowledge of St John and practice of first aid
  • Experience of working in non-traditional roles (, crowd / event medicine).
  • Experience of a risk-based management approach
  • Strategic decision making in a crisis.
