This post is to work within the Emergency General Surgical (EGS) service. It is a Monday to Friday only post with daily hours of 8am until 5.30pm. The successful candidate will have undertaken at least 4 months of general surgery in their foundation programme.Full travelling expenses are paid from a UK port of entry, and the appointee may be able to take advantage of Jersey taxation policies.

This post is to work within the Emergency General Surgical (EGS) service. It is a Monday to Friday only post with daily hours of 8am until 5.30pm. The successful candidate will have undertaken at least 4 months of general surgery in their foundation programme.
You will be responsible for helping with the EGS in-patients, assisting in theatre for EGS cases and helping with the admission of new GP and ED referrals to the service alongside an on call F1.
The breadth of patients seen through the EGS service encompass GI, breast, vascular, trauma and urology specialties.The successful candidate will be actively involved in service redesign work with subsequent ability to present project outcomes locally as well as potential submission to professional meetings.
The successful candidates will be able to combine service commitment with significant professional development in emergency general surgery.This is an ideal post to gain experience towards applying for core surgical training or to add to core surgical training prior to application for higher surgical training .
To support the post holders continuous professional development and career aspirations Clinical Fellows will be supported by Consultant Clinical supervisors.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for the successful applicant to relocate to our Island for 12 months, with the option of subsidised hospital accommodation.
This post holder will work full time within the Emergency General Surgery (EGS) service.On a day to day basis this involves being part of the daily inpatient ward round, supporting the F1 with any in-patient issues, helping with the EGS admissions and referrals from both the Emergency Department and local GPs, and assisting the EGS consultant in theatre.
In time there is expectation that the EGS service will run daily Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) clinics which the post holder will be expected to help with, gaining autonomy in EGS care.
There is a plan to introduce hot gallbladder and expedited surgical lists which the post holder will be first assistant for.
Depending upon the experience and needs of the post holder, it is expected that they will learn to undertake abscess drainage, insertion of suprapubic catheter, laparoscopic appendicectomy and other appropriate surgical procedures during their time in post.
It may be possible to attend minor ops and dermatology lists as long as the EGS work takes priority.The general surgical ward team is comprised of 5 F1s and an F2 doctor.
The post holder is also expected to support the other foundation doctors on the ward as necessary and to cover the general surgical inpatients during protected foundation doctor teaching.
Jersey is aligned to the UK health system and relies on certain centres for tertiary care. Flight transfers are provided by a hospital based Jersey Emergency Transfer team (JETs).Patients being transferred acutely to tertiary centres such as the Cardiothoracic Unit in Oxford and to the Neurosurgical Unit in Southampton for further specialist treatment are accompanied by a doctor and a trained nurse.
Additional Professional DevelopmentMedical students from Southampton University are attached for 8 week rotations in their final year.
Clinical Fellow post holders have enjoyed interaction with these enthusiastic trainees and have provided bedside teaching in addition to that provided by Consultants and Middle Grade Doctors.
The Education Centre is a shared facility for Health & Community Services Department and is equipped with a newly built Clinical Skills Lab which has assisted Clinical Fellows in self learning, particularly in procedural work and optimising their cardio-respiratory resuscitation skills, and in teaching their more junior colleagues both medical students and nursing staff.
