    Group Financial Controller / Business Partner

    Group Financial Controller / Business Partner, Northern England with regular travel, Attractive package including benefits

    The Job

    Reporting to the Head of Finance based at the head office in Brampton, Cumbria as well as a presence in the respective business units:

    Overview

    • Improve financial performance of the various businesses by producing insightful recommendations, benchmarking and analysis
    • Ensure systems and processes are efficient, secure and compliant to deliver monthly reports
    • Devote significant time working in the individual businesses to build collaborative partnerships with the respective teams and General Managers to support the delivery of their financial objectives whilst maintaining regulatory and statutory compliance at all times
    • Promote and support the individual personal development of the finance team
    • Partner with senior leaders, providing them with in-person expertise, insight, oversight, challenge, audit and value-adding decision-making support, to help them deliver their strategies
    • Lead the team to ensure the accurate and timely facilitation of group management and statutory accounts and KPI reports to reporting timetables
    • Summarise the month and YTD position against budget, prior year and prior month and provide insightful analysis, benchmarking and comparatives for the Board, Executive team, and General Managers
    • Assess the impact of current financial performance on the achievement of medium and long-term objectives and propose options for alternative courses of action as and when necessary
    • Prepare a monthly consolidated balance sheet, validating the integrity of the data to ensure it provides an accurate narrative of current position
    • Co-ordinate year-end consolidation, audit, taxation and statutory reporting process
    • Adopt a sound system of working capital and cash management, particularly around customer credit limits, stock turns and the payment of suppliers
    • Ensure that the appropriate taxation, VAT, share and statistical returns are completed accurately and in a timely manner

    Budgeting and Strategic Planning

    • Contribute to the strategic business development dialogue by challenging assumptions and decision making, making recommendations to the Head of Finance
    • Ensure that the financial budgets for individual businesses reflect the agreed strategies and business plans
    • Co-ordinate a timely budget process; provide sufficient challenge and analysis to the numbers and discuss with the General Managers and Head of Finance

    Internal Control

    • Implement a robust system of analytical review, internal control, credit referencing and internal auditing to give the Executive Directors confidence in the numbers being presented
    • Highlight areas of concern or weakness regarding financial controls and suggest how they could be improved

    The Person

    • Professionally qualified accountant (ACA/ ACMA / ACCA)
    • Experience of coaching and mentoring would be advantageous
    • Ability to work as a trusted business partner, advising business unit leaders & General Managers
    • Provide inspiring leadership to team members, wherever they are located, ensuring that they have the support, resources and training to deliver on their objectives
    • Adaptable and able to deliver information in a digestible way, with clarity and appropriate to specific audiences
    • Ability to challenge, coach and motivate and to identify and win over key stakeholders, build relationships and persuade in order to achieve objectives
    • Strong financial modelling and Excel skills
    • Highly IT literate, comfortable operating and learning new systems
    • Excellent verbal and written communication & presentation skills
