    Job summary

    The Deputy Chief Scientific Officer for Workforce, Training and Education is responsible for supporting the Chief Scientific Officer for England by providing professional, clinical, and scientific leadership, advice, and contribution to champion, establish and deliver WT&E programmes across NHS England, and in a cross-system capacity. They are responsible for the strategic leadership and delivery of the National School for Healthcare Science as well as supporting the Cancer and Diagnostic programme deliverables in the context of national policy, including the Long-Term Workforce Plan (LTWP).

    Main duties of the job

    The post holder will have responsibility for providing leadership and overseeing the delivery of all aspects of the work of the National School of Healthcare Science including recruitment, assessment, trainee management support, curriculum maintenance and development, accreditation, development of new educational programmes and strategic direction. The role extends across all healthcare science specialisms and themes, with a focus on ensuring high quality education and training. This role will provide professional, clinical, and scientific leadership, advice, and contribution to champion, establish, and deliver scientific education and training, and in a cross-system capacity where necessary working within the newly formed NHS England workforce, training, and education directorate and closely with the Chief Scientific Officer (CSO)

    As Deputy to the CSO, the post holder will work as part of a dynamic team in delivering an effective service, supporting managers and staff across the Medical Directorate and within the workforce, training and education directorate to support the delivery of NHS England's objectives by providing expertise and professional leadership both to and from the scientific and diagnostic community

    The post holder will deputise for the CSO, with delegated authority to make decisions and should have significant, credible and relevant experience of working in a cross-system capacity at national level and within the context of workforce, education and training

    Person Specification

    Essential Criteria

    Essential

  • o Registered Healthcare Science Professional
  • o Educated to masters or higher equivalent level or equivalent experience of working at a senior level in specialist area.
  • o Member of relevant professional body and/or royal College (Fellowship level or equivalent anticipated) able to evidence CPD.
  • o Experienced scientist/educationalist with management responsibility for relevant services at a senior level (, Trust Lead Scientist, Head of Academic Department or equivalent)
  • o Experience of managing national educational and training programmes in Healthcare Science.
  • Desirable

  • Educated to Doctorate level in Healthcare Science
