    Job summary

    An exciting opportunity has arisen for a passionate, proactive, and autonomous team player to join the Paediatric team as Service Manager for Paediatric services. This post is covering maternity leave and would be ideal for someone looking for an opportunity to support career progression.

    This post plays a key role within the departments triumvirate working closely with the departments clinical lead and matron. The post holder will be primarily responsible for the day to day operational management and service improvement of paediatric services.

    The Paediatric service is welcoming and supportive and comprises of innovative clinical teams passionate about delivering safe, high-quality care to BCYP and their families across West Suffolk.

    This exciting opportunity will provide the post holder with experience including;

  • Autonomy to operationally manage, represent and influence a variety BCYP services including, cardiology, oncology, epilepsy, renal, frenulotomy, diabetes, allergy, respiratory and many more
  • Opportunity to work with a variety of professionals including but not limited to, teachers, psychologists, play specialists, CNS, CANP and PA's
  • SLA's with regional and national providers including surgical pathways
  • Neonatology in relation to medical staffing provision
  • Collaboration and close working relationships with colleagues at neighbouring providers
  • Main duties of the job

    The ideal candidate will have excellent communication, time management skills and be able to work under pressure. The candidate should be able to negotiate with colleagues across the trust at all grades. The candidate will have proven experience working at Service Manager level working in NHS acute services.

    The post holder will oversee the allocation of resource across paediatric services in collaboration with clinical lead and matron. This will include overseeing; medical rota management, UEC pathway management and RTT pathway management. In addition, the post holder will act as a point of escalation for staff within the service to ensure smooth delivery of services as well as addressing any non-clinical issues impacting on service delivery eg) estates/IT.

    The post will be required to undertake;

  • Demand and capacity modelling
  • Contract negotiations support by trust corporate teams
  • Service re-design to include business case development where required
  • Change management
  • Winter planning supported by clinical teams
  • Develop and maintain required budgetary control to avoid overspend
  • To participate in the trusts tactical command rota and divisional manager of the day role
  • This post will provide line management for the departments rota co-ordinator, a key role for the department ensuring safe medical staffing cover to paediatric and neonatal inpatient and outpatient services. In addition, will provide shared line management of the departments CANPs and PAs.

    Key Tasks & Responsibilities :

  • Communication:

  • Managers, team leads and administrative staff across the division and throughout the Trust
  • Clinical Directors, Lead Clinicians, Deputy Chief Nurse, Matrons and other clinical staff within the designated specialities
  • Trust Information and contracting Teams
  • Facilitate improved communication within the service and between other Trust departments, clinicians, managers, ward and other staff.
  • To ensure that all staff are aware of their responsibilities towards quality of patient care and understand their contribution towards enhancing the standard of care and service, within allocated resources and established
  • Analytical and judgemental:
  • Research, evaluate, plan and implement new ways of working and resource utilisation, in conjunction with clinical and non- clinical staff to include annual job planning and junior doctor rotation planning.
  • Provide regular reports, explanatory data and action plans to rectify any problem areas to the
  • Monitor, investigate and report on departmental performance spanning a broad range of issues, including incident trends, complaints, sickness absence and education & training.
  • Planning and organisational Skills:
  • To assume operational responsibility for the provision and development of designated service(s).
  • Supporting designated services to meet access targets g. RTT and cancer targets, and escalating challenges to service provision to SOM.
  • To develop, in conjunction with the Women and Childrens Division, and other Trust departments or Divisions as appropriate; business and service plans ensuring that these correspond with Trust objectives and requirements.

  • Develop and review departmental policies, procedures and guidelines to enable effective service provision and minimise risk.

  • Undertake staff recruitment, across all grades, when
  • Maintain comprehensive records of staff, including annual leave and absence

  • Ensure there is an IPR/appraisal programme in the service and that each member of the service has personal
  • Ensure individual training needs are assessed and individuals have personal development
