    Job summary

    We are seeking an inspiring and dynamic pharmacist to join our senior pharmacy team at Chesterfield Royal. This divisional lead role is crucial in effectively linking clinical pharmacy service delivery with one of our key divisions within the organisation. You will work closely with Family Health on all aspects of medicines management within the division. There are challenging and diverse needs from a medicines perspective and there is plenty of scope for ongoing development and innovation.

    The Family Care Division at Chesterfield Royal Hospital comprises the Maternity & Gynaecology, Child Health and Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) care units. The division provides a broad array of outpatient services across North Derbyshire. There are 3 inpatient wards within the maternity and gynaecology division, a 24 bed paediatric ward and 12 bed neonatal unit.

    The post have arisen from a senior restructure and now is the ideal and exciting time to join the team as we move into the future. You will work alongside two other principal pharmacists in providing leadership for the clinical team as a whole.

    This post would suit experienced pharmacists with high standards who will strive to improve quality of care we provide to our patients. Ideally a level of experience in paediatrics would be considered advantageous.

    Main duties of the job

    You will lead on clinical pharmacy services to the division and have remit for improving safe use of medicines in paediatrics and maternity services. You will ensure operationally the service meets changing needs of the organisation and is able to react to unforeseen pressures.

    This is an ideal opportunity for someone who is committed to driving improvements to support wider organisational services and divisional innovation projects. You must have a passion for patient care and ensure this is at the forefront of all we do.

    You will be expected to have extensive relevant clinical pharmacy experience, including prescribing practice as leading by example is a key to the role. You will also be expected to contribute to the weekend and bank holiday rotas.

    The role also includes provision of professional and governance support to our pharmacy team based in Royal Primary Care. You will also take a lead in supporting the on-call team and clinical aspects of outpatient pharmacy.

    Service Development

  • To lead on the development of the pharmacy and medicines optimisation service within the Division to develop and deliver clinical pharmacy services and ensure safe and effective use of medicines.
  • To provide operational and clinical support to medicines optimisation developments and prescribing initiatives as required by the Division.
  • Clinical Services & Patient Care

  • To act as a clinical role model to and provide direct clinical supervision to the pharmacy team to ensure a high-quality service is developed which improves outcomes through the provision of a patient-centred approach to the safe and clinically and cost effective use of medicines.
  • Medicines Safety

  • Participate in the risk management process and other clinical governance activities, including risk management of own scope of practice.
  • Support divisional governance teams in developing and maintaining guidelines and policies relating to medicines management.
  • Information & Data Management

  • To develop quantitative and qualitative performance measures, co-ordinate their use and be involved in disseminating, acting on and sharing learning from the information gathered.

  • To be responsible for the workforce development plan for the pharmacy team within the Division including the development and extension of the roles of pharmacy professionals.

  • To support and advise relevant leads and Divisional Leadership Team on the delivery of efficiency savings in relation to medicines optimisation.
  • Research & Development

  • To carry out practice research in medicines optimisation and pharmacy support services and publish the results.
  • To develop initiatives in the delivery of medicines optimisation and develop quality standards for clinical effectiveness.
