    Job summary

    Are you a Nursing Associate with a passion for helping people in their activities of daily living and making a difference to their quality of life in a rehabilitation setting? The London Spinal Cord Injury Centre is one of 8 specialist rehabilitation centre in England, who look after individuals with both newly acquired and pre-existing spinal cord injuries.

    We are looking for Nurse Associates who are passionate about the importance of rehabilitation nursing to join our diverse nursing team.

    Our Nursing team consists of, B2 Health Care Assistants, B3 Senior Health Care Assistants, B3 Rehab Assistants, , B4 Registered Nursing Associates, B5 Reintegration Practitioners B5 Registered Nurses, B6 Ward sisters, B7 Clinical Nurse Managers, B7 Clinical Nurse Educators, B7 Health Coaches and a B8 Ward Matron. We offered excellent progression with the correct competency based training and academic study.

    The role requires the post holder to undertake internal rotation- early, late, long day and night shifts.

    Main duties of the job

    NA's will work as part of the nursing establishment on SCIC, working alongside highly skilled NMC registered and unregistered staff. They will be an essential part of the multi- disciplinary integrated patient care on SCIC.

    The role will require the successful candidate to work as part of the team on SCIC caring for those with Spinal cord injuries, they will be expected to practice according to the NMC code of conduct, demonstrating professional behaviour at all times.

    The role requires excellent communication skills, and the provision of excellent patient centred care, underpinned with the most relevant evidence based practice.

    About us

    This centre is a specialist commissioned 30 bedded Regional Rehabilitation Centre and one of only 8 centres in England. This service facilitates rehabilitation of individuals who have been recently paralysed as a result of traumatic or non-traumatic events. The service also readmits individuals for tissue viability care, urology input and secondary episodes of rehabilitation.

    The overarching philosophy of the specialist centre is that rehabilitation is a journey that takes years to achieve and is best delivered through lifelong interventions and learning. The MDT aim to give the patients the initial skills to return to their lives as soon as possible. The patient journey is further supported by re-admission opportunity's, outpatient services, specialist community Liaison nursing, all to maintain good health and ongoing skill acquisition.

    The nursing associate role on LSCIC offers an exciting opportunity for both experienced and newly qualified nursing associates to develop their career within the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital. We are a trust that is actively developing and supporting the NA role.

    The NA will work independently under the leadership of registered nurses, working within the sphere of nursing and care and within all aspects of the nursing process.

  • To practice according to the NMC Code for standards of proficiency for registered nursing associates.
  • Provide patient centered care, whilst maintaining privacy and dignity at all times.
  • Work alongside the registered nurse to undertake, deliver and monitor patient care, whilst managing own workload.
  • Be responsible for their own actions and decision making, prioritise and escalate as required.
  • To participate in patient education and health promotion/
  • Recognise situations where emotional and spiritual support are required and offer appropriate intervention, referring to the multidisciplinary team as needed psychosocial key worker etc.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication at all times when undertaking handover and in all documentation.
  • To recognise and work within the limits of their scope of proficiency.
  • Identify any risk to safety and escalate any concerns as appropriate.

    Education & professional Qualifications

    Essential

  • Registered Nursing Associate on the NMC register.
  • Nursing Associate foundation degree qualification
  • Experience

    Essential

  • Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Insight into how to evaluate own strengths and development needs, seeking advice where appropriate.
  • Experience of providing and receiving complex, sensitive information.
  • Skills

  • Ability to organise and prioritise own delegated workload.
  • Able to undertake the clinical skills outlined in the job description
  • Ability to deal with non- routine and unpredictable nature of workload and individual patient contact.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (written, verbal and non-verbal communication) with patients/ relatives and carers and all members of the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Ability to develop effective and appropriate relationships with people their families, carers and colleagues.
  • Ability to support, supervise, assess and act as a role model to trainee nursing associates, nursing assistants as required within the clinical setting.
