    Description

    Sandwell & West Birmingham NHS Trust is undergoing an exciting period of change, with the new Midland Metropolitan University Hospital due to open in October 2024.

    Reporting into the Head of Logistics, the Logistics Operations Manager role will take on operational leadership and will have budget responsibility for managing a safe and efficient Logistics team at the Trust.


    The Logistics Operations Manager will take lead on all areas of the logistics & warehouse functions by taking ownership of goods within the supply chain once procured as well as responsibility for the introduction of the new Logistics service.

    The post holder will oversee the development and implementation of policies, procedures and systems that will support its optimisation.

    Activities supported by the Logistics Operations Manager will include Waste, Linen, Post, Non-patient-facing portering activity, sterile services, receipts and distribution and transport.

    Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust (SWBT) is an integrated careorganisation with a budget of approximately 600 million and over 7,000 staff.

    Diversity and social care is at the core of what we do as the Trust provides Community and Acute Services to over half a million people in an urban centre that demands massive regeneration and has substantial premature mortality.


    Our new acute hospital, the Midland Metropolitan University Hospital (MMUH), opens in 2024 and will provide care to our local population from first class, purpose-built premises.

    The development of the new hospital will play an important role in the regeneration of the wider area and in improving the lives of local people and reducing health inequalities.

    Managing a busy team of Lead Leaders and Logistics Operatives.

    • Providing operational oversight and advice to the Head of Logistics. Monitoring activity and providing reports as possible.
    • Helping to embed a continuous improvement culture for Logistics.
    • Helping to embed a new Logistics Function and Team (operating as One Logistics Team) at MMUH and throughout the retained estate.
    • Ensuring that waste is managed and removed from our sites in a legal, compliant, safe and efficient manner.
    • Deputisting for the Head of Logistics.
    Significant experience of managing a large team, preferably within a Logistics/warehouse environment

    Evidence of working at a senior level, deputising for senior leaders and completing papers for submission at Board Level
