The Role
THE ROLE
As part of its mission to make finance markets work better for small businesses across the UK, British Business Bank (BBB) acts as an institutional investor in a wide range of venture and growth equity funds and small and mid-cap credit funds. In this role you will join the Legal and Governance team to provide support to the BBB's business teams covering a broad range of funds-based transactions and to support the activities of the wider Legal and Governance team.
Reporting to a Senior Counsel, you will focus primarily on supporting fund investment programmes across BBB including transactions in private closed ended debt funds and venture capital funds, funds-of-funds, listed funds, and non-regulated investment vehicles funded by private and public sources of finance. The role will also include advising on financial regulation and providing general commercial advice in an in-house Financial Services context. You will be required to manage external counsel and legal fees and all members of the legal team are required to contribute to know-how and training.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a lawyer with a minimum of 4 years+ PQE. This position will be based in London or Sheffield and will be a hybrid role with a requirement to work 2 days per week in the office.
You will have experience of advising on and managing funds transactions in the financial services/asset management space and strong transactional skills, with experience of working with front line business leads essential and managing external legal counsel desirable. Experience of acting for institutional investors with a similar profile to the Bank would be a distinct advantage. Candidates applying from private practice roles may be considered provided they can demonstrate a genuine ability to adapt to an in-house environment.
