    Job description

    The successful candidate will work on high profile and significant Government regulation reform that will shape the future of the UK economy and society.

    They will lead a small analytical team, working across DSIT and other Government departments and are expected to take an active role in shaping and developing a programme of work on digital regulation analysis and evaluation. They are also expected to effectively collaborate with both policy colleagues and the analysis team to ensure that effective analytical support is provided across the Directorate.���

    In the past, this role has involved leading the development of the digital regulation Outcomes Monitoring Framework, supporting analytical work across Government on digital consumer issues such as fake reviews and subscription traps, and economic analysis of digital harms.

    The Digital Regulation team is responsible for developing the Government�s overarching approach to regulating digital technologies. It leads on coordinating major policy projects, addressing some of the most challenging and cutting-edge policy issues in digital tech, from international collaboration on digital regulation to digital technology�s role in driving economy growth.

    Person specification

    Developing and leading Digital Regulation analysis [and evaluation]:

  • Design and lead analysis and research projects to further the team�s understanding of digital regulation.
  • Leading, designing and managing evaluation to effectively monitor and assess the impact of digital regulation, including coordinating with analysts across DSIT and other Government departments.
  • Developing relevant theories of change, metrics, dashboards and evidence.
  • Ensuring that publications from the Digital Regulation team use robust and quality-assured evidence.
  • Collaborating and influencing relevant teams and stakeholders.
  • Influencing and leading analytical work with DSIT teams, regulators, and other Government departments.
  • Disseminating evidence and ensuring it is taken into account for effective policy development.
  • Maintain and develop a strong, constructive relationship with colleagues and partners through regular communication.
  • Contribute to wider Digital Economy and Data Protection Directorate's analytical work.
  • Skills and experience:�

    This is a great role for someone with:

  • The ability to research, design and deliver analysis to support and influence policy decisions.
  • Experience in working closely with policy colleagues and analysts (outside own team) to design and deliver a diverse range of analytical projects ( economic analysis of digital consumer issues, evaluation plans, regulation analysis).
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, including the ability to build and manage relationships with other DSIT teams, external partners ( other government departments, regulators and experts).
  • Knowledge of or interest in digital consumer issues and regulation of digital activities.
  • Experience of working with diverse stakeholders and in policy coordination.

    Analysts completing the Economics Masters Apprenticeship Programme (EMAP) or the L7 Operational Research Specialist Apprenticeship are welcome to apply if they meet the criteria of the job description.
