    About the role

    We are recruiting a postdoctoral researcher to join the Physics Group, based in the department, a highly collaborative team working at the interface of technical development and application in neuroscience studies. Appointments will be at the Research Fellow or Senior Research Fellow level, with salary offered at Research Fellow/UCL Grade 7 (£42, - £50, per annum including London Allowance) or Senior Research Fellow/UCL Grade 8 (£51, - £60, per annum including London Allowance), dependent on skills and experience.

    You will develop advanced laminar fMRI or qMRI (enhanced microstructural specificity) protocols for deployment in neuroscience studies. The role offers a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of neuroimaging research with access to a 7T and two 3T research-dedicated MRI scanners.

    The role is available immediately and funded for three years in the first instance.

    About you

    You will be enthusiastic, technically able, and highly collaborative, and interested in developing the next generation of tools for naturalistic neuroimaging. You should have a PhD in MRI physics, biomedical engineering, or a related field, with demonstrable expertise in neuroimaging and expert programming skills (, MatLab, Julia, Python, C/C++).

    You will also be specialised in at least two of the following areas (specialisation in three areas is required for appointment as Senior Research Fellow):

  • fMRI protocol design and data analysis.
  • Pulse sequence programming preferably on the Siemens platform (IDEA/ICE), relevant experience with open platforms such as Pulseq will be considered.
  • Image reconstruction including advanced parallel imaging techniques, , compressed sensing, and open platforms such as Gadgetron.
  • Biophysical modelling, , relaxometry and contrast models, diffusion processes, physiological models, or models of neurovascular coupling.

    • Additionally, candidates interested in appointment at Senior Research Fellow level will have a well-established track record of impactful publications and experience of supervising staff and/or students.

    This role meets the eligibility requirements for a skilled worker certificate of sponsorship or a global talent visa under UK Visas and Immigration legislation. Therefore, UCL welcomes applications from international applicants who require a visa.

    What we offer

    Appointment as Research Fellow is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be as Research Assistant (salary £37, - £39, per annum) with appointment as Research Fellow being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis.
