    Specialist Speech and Language Therapist - Acute inpatient dysphagia and communication

    Full Time : 37.An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Inpatient Speech & Language Therapy Team (SLT) based at Birmingham Children's Hospital.

    The team is committed to providing high quality care to patients referred to the service during their hospital stay for assessment of their feeding, swallowing and acquired communication needs.

    They are highly motivated, enthusiastic and committed to supporting each other and the wider SLT team across Birmingham Women's and Children's Hospital.

    We are looking for someone who is compassionate, resilient, and who has enthusiasm, knowledge and experience of working with children and young people with complex feeding, swallowing and communication needs.

    We are a friendly, sociable and welcoming team who are committed to offering new colleagues support to develop skills in working in the acute paediatric setting.

    The team is also committed to service development, clinical audit and processes to measure outcomes and clinical effectiveness, so there are opportunities to contribute and participate in projects to support with this.

    A flexible approach with the ability to work under pressure in a busy environment is essential.

    We believe finding a balance between life and work enables staff to deliver the best care and therefore would be willing to consider a flexible approach to working hours.

    Speech & Language Therapy degree or equivalent
    Health and Care Professions Council registration (HCPC)
    Registered member of Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists (RCSLT)
    Evidence of successful completion of specialist post qualification short courses related to children with communication difficulties
    Post graduate training in dysphagia & /or completion of RCSLT competencies

    Experience of working with babies and/or children with dysphagia
    Experience of providing holistic care to children with highly complex needs e.g. a combination of medical, sensory, cognitive, physical, etc
    Motivated to work with children and young people at Birmingham Children's Hospital

    Experience of developing and delivering training to own and other professions
    Able to use computer and other technology to complete day to day tasks for work and familiar with Microsoft officec
    Knowledge of professional issues in current practice and commitment to remain informed of new developments in Speech & Language Therapy Practice
    Experience of training other staff

    Commitment to working with young people and children and a desire to develop further specialist skills
