    An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Environmental Health Officer to make a lasting positive contribution to improving public health and carbon reduction in Edinburgh.

    The post is within the Council's Placemaking and Mobility Service and will include supporting the Council in meeting its statutory and advisory air quality duties and climate change commitments.

    The successful candidate will work with the team to tackle key sources of air pollution across the city. A good understanding of current issues, legislation, policy and guidance will be important to performing effectively in this role.

    The successful candidate should have an appreciation of appropriate environmental controls and how air quality, public health and climate change matters can be interlinked, affected and improved by the design and operation of our streets, public spaces and new development.

    Key duties will include undertaking review and assessment of the City's air quality, action planning, and engaging with and advising stakeholders (internal and external) including supporting planning applications, dealing with enquiries and getting involved in health promotion campaigns.

    The successful candidate will need to be highly motivated, proactive, enthusiastic, and be able to work effectively in a team comprising a variety of disciplines, including Planning and Transport. It is essential the post holder has strong communication skills and the ability to build key relationships, including those at senior management and Elected Member level.

    The post holder is required to hold an appropriate professional qualification as defined under UK legislation for regulated professions. Possession of additional specific qualifications to support working in Environmental Health disciplines is also desirable.

    Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range.
