    Job summary

    An exciting opportunity has arisen at CUH to be part of the Senior Nursing team on the Neonatal Unit with rotation to the East of England transport team PaNDR. You will be expected to work a 24 hour shift pattern across a 7 day service.

    The Rosie hospital NICU is a tertiary centre caring for up to 40 babies with a range of medical and surgical needs. Many of these infants have long and complex journeys therefore you should have a deep understanding of the Neonatal journey and the challenges families encounter.

    PaNDR (Paediatric and Neonatal Decision Support and Retrieval Service) is the neonatal and paediatric retrieval service for the East of England. Whilst the teams work within their clinical speciality, the teams also work supportively and collaboratively together. Providing expert critical care to neonates and children up to the age of 16 years with a variety of medical and surgical conditions both at their referring hospital and in the ambulance en-route to their new care centre.

    A full induction process is provided with competencies surrounding the transport situation and equipment

    Main duties of the job

    You will be a highly motivated and passionate about providing high quality Neonatal care. Within the role you will be required to manage the unit independently and escalate to the Lead Nurse or Matron for the service, within the PaNDR team you will be required to work both autonomously and within a team.

    Opportunities for personal learning and development will be encouraged once in role. The B7 role will have line management responsibilities including carrying out appraisals, sickness and performance management of the team.

    You will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills and utilise these to enhance patient care and experience both locally and across the region. This includes working collaboratively with the MDT to share learning with both staff and service users across the region.

    Qualifications

    Essential

  • First level registration (part 1,8,12 or 15)
  • Post registration neonatal critical care qualification
  • oSafe Guarding Children Level 1, 2 and 3 training
  • Desirable

  • Evidence of degree level study
  • Teaching / assessing qualification / mentor course
  • NLS course
  • Experience

    Essential

  • Experience at Band 6 in a level 2 or 3 Neonatal Unit
  • Desirable

  • Experience at Band 6 QIS
  • Experience in the care of neonates requiring surgical treatment
  • Experience as a mentor to students
  • Ward management experience
  • Attendance at deliveries unsupervised
  • Knowledge

    Essential

  • Awareness of professional issues
  • To have knowledge of neonatal nursing, integrating theory and practice
  • Desirable

  • To have a contemporary knowledge of professional nursing strategy
  • Skills

  • Competent to care for all levels of infants in a safe and effective manner without direct supervision
