College Research Coordinator - London, United Kingdom - SOAS University of London
Description
Job title: College Research Coordinator
Department: Research and Knowledge Exchange Directorate
Contract Type: Permanent
Grade: 6
Salary: £33,823 - £40,242 per annum inclusive of London Weighting
Location: Bloomsbury
Hours: 35
SOAS University of London is the leading Higher Education institution in Europe specialising in the study of Asia, Africa and the Near and Middle East. SOAS University of London is positioned to play a leading role in reimagining higher education globally, with a new strategic plan in place as the basis for the renewal and revitalisation of the School which commits SOAS to both student responsiveness and research intensity. SOAS is moving towards a new model of international partnerships which is responsive to the transnational character of our global challenges.
About the Department:
The Research and Knowledge Exchange Directorate (RKED) is a growing team that manages the whole lifecycle of research and knowledge exchange activities at SOAS, from supporting researchers to applying for funding to generating research impact and commercialising new knowledge. Building on the success of our REF 2021 submission in which we were ranked 40th for quality, we place research excellence and intensivity at the very heart of our institutional mission. The team support this goal by providing a high quality, frictionless service to academic colleagues, and supporting the delivery of outcomes and key performance indicators linked to the Research and Knowledge Exchange Strategy.
About the Role
SOAS is looking to appoint three College Research Coordinators who will each provide research support to one of the three Colleges: Law, Anthropology and Politics (COLAP), Humanities (COHUM) or Development, Economics and Finance (CODEF). You will focus on successfully embedding a hub and spokes model to delivering a range of research support functions. You will work with College Research Convenors to develop and enhance an excellent departmental research culture, help to promote funding opportunities to staff and PhD students, and work with the relevant colleagues to secure and manage grants. Excellent communication and organisational skills are essential to support effective working with colleagues across professional service teams and the academic community. A high priority will be to provide timely and efficient administrative support to enable the smooth application, set up and delivery of research projects, whilst ensuring compliance with School policies and processes and external funder requirements.
You should be able to contribute effectively to a team, manage your time effectively, respond positively to changing priorities and contribute to the improvement of the School's systems, processes and approach, suggesting ways in which these could be streamlined or enhanced. You will join a small and supportive team and have excellent opportunities for networking and career development.
You can find further information on the key criteria for the role in the Job Description and Person Specification, along with a full list of duties and responsibilities, which can be found on the SOAS website.
