MAIA is looking for an experienced researcher, passionate about the principles that underpin our work, to draw together the data and learning that helps us to make our case, develop our practice and advance our thinking: Researcher (3 days a week, 6 month contract, £32,100 pro rata, Birmingham).
PURPOSE: To draw together and share wisdom and learning from other organisations and sectors that can support MAIA's vision, mission and demonstrator projects. To facilitate organisational learning by embedding and refining our evaluation practices.
TIME: 3 days per week
TERMS: Fixed term contract of 6 months
SALARY: £32,100 full time salary pro rata (£1605 per month before tax)
BENEFITS: 3 wellbeing days + 3 CPD days per year, 28 days holiday + bank holidays (pro rata), birthdays off, £300 annual wellness budget, additional access budget available
LOCATION: Birmingham or within reasonable commuting distance
WOULD SUIT SOMEONE WHO
- is inquisitive and rigorous, excited by new ideas but with the stamina to explore them in depth and stress test before taking them forward
- is passionate about spatial justice, racial justice, regenerative economics, community development and disability justice;
- is aware of or comfortable with spatial practice / critical spatial and urban theory
- has outstanding data collection, data analysis and evaluation skills
- can think strategically with a whole organisation / system level perspective
- has experience of a wide range of research techniques, including those involved in desk based secondary research and both qualitative and quantitative primary research;
- can generate and evaluate different options and proposals for action
- can present their ideas clearly and concisely, whether in written form, verbally or visually
- is a confident networker, able to build rapport with a range of different people, from corporate partners to local residents
- has a good knowledge of Birmingham, particularly in and surrounding Ladywood and the communities we work with
AREAS OF WORK
- Research leadership: leading and developing the research that shapes and underpins the philosophical, structural, ecological and operating logics of our work. This includes our demonstrator project ABUELOS, activities, resource redistribution work and future prototypes.
- ABUELOS investment case: undertaking desk based research to inform and support the investment case for ABUELOS including gathering data that evidences need;
- Strengthening evaluation and data collection practice: working to embed good practice across the organisation, building on our GRAFF methodology, gathering and sharing data and information that supports our organisational learning;
- Data for storytelling: Gathering and curating data in support of the communications and storytelling strategy for different stakeholders, including community, funders, developers, audiences, etc
- Dissemination: writing up and sharing learning internally and externally through reports, presentations, blog posts and creative media
Core duties (shared by all MAIA team members)
- Attend and contribute to **weekly team meetings** either in person at YARD or virtually
- Ensure the **smooth flow of information** around the organisation by replying to messages and emails in a timely manner.
- Participate in **regular 1-1 meetings** with other team members, including monthly check in with a Director
- Participate in **team rotas** for covering shared roles.
- Engage in **organisational development** conversations and activities
- Commit time to **learning** and engaging with MAIA's programme, inspirations and the development of our thinking
