    Job summary

    HFEH Mind is committed to working in partnership with the NHS and other Mental Health providers to ensure more Children and Young People can access MH treatment and specialist support.

    At HFEH Mind we tailor our response accordingly by providing appropriate services like talking therapies, peer support, advocacy, crisis care, employment, and housing support. In response to government plans for expansion and provision an exciting Crisis Café referred to as Circle was developed by HFEH Mind as part of the newly established Complex Needs Hub.

    The purpose of Circle is to help alleviate mental health and wellbeing during heightened arousal or crisis through supportive therapeutic provision within the local community facilitated by the Circle team. As the out of hours Mental Health Practitioner, you will be a key link between the Youth services core day services and Crisis Prevention services working with CYPs between the ages of 5 18 (up to 25 for non crisis services) years old who present or referred to this crisis service.

    This Mental Health Advisor role would suit an experienced Mental Health Youth Worker, CAMHS support worker, Youth Counsellor, Child Wellbeing Practitioner, Emotional Wellbeing Practitioner, an Assistant Psychologist with some training in MH interventions like CBT and some experience of working with CYPs presenting with difficulties related to their MH that can work within a small multi-disciplinary crisis containment team.

    Main duties of the job

    Your role as a Mental Health Advisor will include providing support and psychoeducation for CYPs who are experiencing acute crisis. You will work in partnership with social care, education, voluntary and statutory services to de-escalate crisis presentations and offer appropriate wrap around care. You will also be involved in creating relaxation/mindfulness events; facilitating phone calls and assisting young people to navigate community support.

    You will support CYP by providing a systematic approach to CYP mental health that will include:

  • De-escalation and relaxation in the café as a therapeutic space
  • Leading on DBT and CBT emotional regulation exercises
  • Educating CYPs on trauma to the brain and trauma responses.
  • Educating CYPs on Mental Health Self-Management
  • Co- producing safety plans with the CYP, parents and/referrer.
  • Working collaboratively with other members of the team to alleviate stimulus presentation through appropriate containment and support the co-production of health alternative responses and/behaviours.

  • Other HFEH Mind departments or services to include Human resources, Safeguarding and Adult services.
  • Key Responsibilities

    Service Delivery:

  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team by providing containment and care to service users attending the Circle under direct supervision as required.
  • Support children and young people, their parents/carers, families in the self-management of presenting difficulties.
  • Provide practical 1:1 support through onboarding and telephone engagement as required.
  • Assist in implementing the delivery of programmes of care as requested by the Team Manager and Supervisor
  • Support the design of training materials and co-facilitate group or workshop delivery to promote emotional regulation, crisis identification and management, mental health awareness and self-care.
  • Awareness of community resources by developing local knowledge of the area, its services and facilities. Responsible for mapping these services, creating and updating as a service resource to work from.
  • Supporting appropriate signposting and partner agency referrals for service users where the need for additional support is identified and agreed with CYPs parent or carer.
  • Support the delivery of workshops and peer discussion groups as required by the team.
  • Ability to recognise Safeguarding situations; be aware of and adhere to Safeguarding guidelines; know when to inform and share these concerns with other colleagues and raise safeguarding alerts.
  • Observe and report any changes in the service users physical, mental health and behaviour to the Team Manager or Supervisor during handover huddles.
  • Support other Youth Services service delivery, when required and agreed with Team Manager.
  • Support the development of Youth Services tools, materials and services including carrying out audits and preparing service data for stakeholder presentation, training and wider service presentations.
  • Participate in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of crisis interventions under direct or indirect supervision of the Team Manager or Supervisor
  • Participate in the regular case and service reviews or discussions and have support responsibilities for cases.
  • Initiate, organise, and evaluate practical support with therapeutic/clinical advice with support from the Team Manager or Supervisor
  • To utilise skills flexibly and effectively so that interventions and practical support can be creatively thought about and facilitated in other appropriate settings.
  • Service Accountability:
  • Support the monitoring and evaluation of the effectiveness of the services delivered under the guidance of Supervisor/ Team Manager.
  • Contribute to gathering and presenting information for quarterly monitoring reports.
  • Maintain records of clinical activity in accordance with wider and local service policies and procedures by keeping administrative processes, databases and client records up to date.
  • Maintain accurate and timely information, documentation and reporting systems in accordance with agreed standards, HFEH Policies, Procedures and the Data Protection Act.
  • Awareness of the HFEH Mind Complaint Policy to promote excellence of service and consumer satisfaction.
  • Work within the constructs of and adhere to HFEH Mind and MSS agreed Covid-19 protocols/requirements.
  • Adhere to established policies, procedures, protocols within the service and those specifically relating to HFEH Mind and the MSS Team.
  • Appropriately and without undue delay seek support and consultation regarding any complex or high-risk cases that have been referred.
  • Maintain an awareness in the field of CYP mental health and managing crisis by attending training courses and workshops and accessing up to date literature.
  • Participate in regular shared learning activities and developmental experiences across CAMHS.
  • To participate in new service initiatives designed to improve efficiency and outcomes for children, young people and their families.
  • Ensure that all support provided from has an inclusive values base which recognises and respects difference.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of all training and intervention activity
  • Monitor and track progress against access targets for your caseload and develop plans with your supervisor to reach access targets
  • Attend relevant educational opportunities in line with identified professional objectives

  • To receive/attend regular group and 1:1 supervision clinical and management supervision and participate in appraisal processes as required.
  • To attend handover meetings; case review meetings and/consultation; regular team and handover meetings as required.
  • To attend mandatory in-house and relevant external training opportunities, to support own ongoing development.

    Qualifications

    Essential

  • College level education with min 5 GCSEs or 2 A levels at a minimum grade D with NVQ care level 4 and above or equivalent or Higher Education Certificate/BTEC/Higher Education Diploma/Foundation Degree/ Undergraduate Degree/Degree Apprenticeship.
  • Desirable

  • Degree in psychology, health, and social care or equivalent.
  • Experience

    Essential

  • Minimum two years experience of supporting children and/young people in a mental health service or similar role in a paid of volunteer capacity.
  • Experience in delivering programmes and workshops to groups
  • Minimum six months experience in delivering 1:1 practical support.
  • Working knowledge of child and adult safeguarding
  • Experience of working with parents and carers.
  • Organisational skills and excellent time management.
  • Experience of using Microsoft Office package
  • Working understanding of General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR)
  • Positive attitude towards working with people with mental health problems.
  • Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of equality and diversity issues and the ability to integrate into employment policies and practices
  • Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to organise and prioritise workload.
  • Ability to work flexibly according to the needs of the service and to support work/life balance.
  • Desirable

  • Experience of working with CYPs presenting with difficulties in language and speech, motor skills, behaviour, memory, learning, or other neurological functions within the context of a formal Neuro Developmental Disorder diagnosis including ADHD.
  • Experience engaging school professionals including SLTs, educational psychologists and SENCOs.
  • Experience in co-producing activities and campaigns with young people.
  • Experience of working within a multi- disciplinary team
  • Experience of supporting young people experiencing episodes of heightened stress/distress
  • Excellent communication and listening skills with the ability to tailor messages to a variety of audiences.
  • Experience using CYP IAPTUS patient record system
  • Experience of working with CYPs with neurodevelopmental conditions.
  • Experience working in partnership with schools.
