    Job Purpose

    To develop, lead and sustain research and scholarship of international standard and contribute to the delivery of an excellent student experience by delivering, organising and reviewing agreed teaching, assessment and administration processes to enhance learning and teaching in the School of Humanities.

    In particular, we seek a candidate with the necessary expertise to research and teach at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in digital scholarship and special collections (rare books and manuscripts), considering the use of information in a variety of formats including historical and archival sources, in the subject area of Information Studies.

    They should have broad knowledge of digital materiality and/or working knowledge of decolonial practices in the library/archives sector.

    For appointment at Grade 9: In addition to the above:

    To make a substantial and positive contribution to the strategic direction of the School/College through leading and contributing to research of international standard, high quality teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, securing research funding, and providing academic leadership and management within the School/College.

    To actively engage in relationships with external stakeholders that advance knowledge exchange, public understanding and outreach. Main Duties and Responsibilities 1.

    Pursue and deliver independent research proposals and/or collaborative research projects, project managing research activities, supervising and taking responsibility for the research team.

    Securing external resources to support research individually and/or jointly, as appropriate to the subject area.2.

    Develop an expert reputation in the field by effective dissemination and publishing of research findings in leading journals and conferences, and where appropriate undertaking knowledge exchange activities.3.

    Make a substantial contribution to developing and enhancing the research profile of the School/College.

    Establishing and leading research collaborations with appropriate individuals and groups within the University, including multi-disciplinary links, and developing external research collaborations both nationally and internationally, to ensure that research activities are at the forefront of the field.4.

    Actively contribute to the effective management and administration of the College/School, assuming responsibility for the management of allocated resources and contributing to thewider organisation of the subject area.5.

    Carry out course administration within required timescales ensuring effective communication of information, in particular assessment requirements and criteria and timely and constructive feedback on assessment.6.

    Develop effective approaches which enhance intellectual understanding and innovation in the field and support and enhance course delivery, course organisation, feedback and assessment, involving blended and online provision.7.

    Ensure an inclusive and evidence-based approach to facilitating learning in a range of face to face and online delivery formats such as tutorials, lectures, problem-based learning, that promotes student participation and learning outcome attainment.8.

    Develop effective working relationships with students and early career staff in the subject specialism, providing specialist advice, support and academic leadership.

    Work in partnership with relevant student services teams, respond appropriately to the diverse range of learning approaches and learner needs.9.

    To supervise project work at undergraduate and Masters levels and take forward the supervision and training of postgraduate research students.10.

    Take on administrative or management roles within the subject/School as assigned by the Head of School.11. Engage in continuing professional development activities as appropriate.12. Undertake any other reasonable duties as required by the Head of School.13.

    To contribute to the enhancement of the University's international profile in line with the University's Strategic Plan, World Changers Together.

    For appointment at Grade 9: 14. Undertake a leading role in the development and implementation of individual and/or joint research projects of international standard, participating actively in the development of College/School research strategy.15. Act as principal investigator or project leader on major research projects with a portfolio of research activity and publications of high quality and impact.16. Take a lead in major funding bids and related activities, including Knowledge Exchange, which develop and sustain support for the subject area and recognised excellence for the University.17. Undertake academic management and leadership roles and responsibilities to ensure high quality course/programme administration, setting and monitoring standards and lead on the development of policy and practice across research and teaching teams (beyond subject/school level).18. Create and develop effective networks with students, staff across the University, and external stakeholders to oversee the embedding of key University priorities such as graduate attributes, professional requirements, work-related learning, transitions support, student mobility and quality enhancement within credit bearing and non-credit bearing activities.19. Develop a strategic approach to embedding learning technologies across the Subject/School and College to support and enhance course/programme delivery, course organisation, feedback and assessment within campus based, blended and online provision.20. Lead the development of inclusive and innovative approaches to teaching, learning and assessment that recognise the needs of a diverse student cohort, taking appropriate responsibility for managing associated cultural changes and staff support and development.21. Regularly attend and participate in appropriate activities to effectively contribute to the subject specialism, through learned societies, professional bodies, broader review and editorial processes. Disseminate research findings locally, nationally and internationally to enhance learning within the discipline and to represent the University externally.22. Through an established network of external stakeholders, increasingly influence public understanding and/or professional policy and practice aligned with the strategic priorities of the School/College/University.23. Supervise individual student projects at both undergraduate and postgraduate level to ensure their effective development and assisting with difficulties e.g. learning support/problems.24. Engage in continuing professional development activities as appropriate.25. Undertake any other reasonable duties as required by the Head of School.26.

    For appointment at Grade 9: A4 Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 12 (PhD) or equivalent in related discipline with an extensive and established reputation in research and significant teaching experience within the discipline/subject areaA5 Membership of a relevant professional body, if applicableA6 Recognised expertise in subject discipline/specialism to develop new knowledge and understanding within the field.

    A7 A thorough understanding of, and track record in, contributing to broader academic leadership and management at School/Service/College levelA8 Sustained engagement with current practice and developing knowledgeA9 Engagement with the current and future priorities of University/College/Service strategies, aims and ambitions.
