    Description

    Role summary:

    The Head of Development will drive the development strategy for Badminton England (BE), along with leading and empowering a team of development staff to increase participation, and develop BE to be the most inclusive sport. You will report directly to the Sport Director and have responsibility for budget management and cost control.

    You will be driving a positive culture, living our values with your team to support and empower them to deliver, whilst working with other departments and key external agencies to influence and drive the strategy.

    Responsibilities:

    Strategic Planning and Delivery

    • To deliver a development strategy to increase participation and become the most inclusive sport aligned to the Badminton England strategy

    • To identify and apply for grant funded programmes regionally and nationally to support the development of the sport with a particular focus on diversity and inclusion

    • Stakeholder management with key national agencies to position badminton to attract resources and support to deliver the development strategy

    • Production of an annual participation report to track and measure growth, equality, diversion and inclusion

    • Ensuring all delivery is compliant with BE and wider governance and legislation

    • Actively working with the development team to increase visibility and presence with partners to create strong partnerships to deliver the strategy

    • Actively working with the development team to produce underpinning programmes and initiatives to drive participation

    • Control of the development team budget including the setting of the annual budget

    • Working in partnership with other departments across BE to deliver the aims of the BE strategy and implementation plan, particularly the areas of EDI, safeguarding, health and safety, governance, competition, pathway, commercial, engagement, performance, membership

    Management of the Development Team
    Provide leadership to the national and regional network and empower them to deliver their work and programme management including:

    • Development of performance objectives developed with the development team with clear success measures aligned to the development strategy

    • Development of personal development plans for all team members

    • Developing, empowering and supporting staff to deliver their work objectives and achieve their personal development plans

    • Recruitment and selection of development staff

    Who we are looking for?

    • Track record in strategic development and empowering a team to deliver
    • Proven experience in stakeholder management, specifically engaging with national agencies, committees and volunteers
    • Demonstrated ability to lead and coordinate a nationwide team of development staff effectively (mainly remote workers but some based at Badminton England office)
    • Proven experience in securing grants at various levels, including locally, regionally, and nationally
    • Demonstrated ability to increase participation in sport
    • Understanding of BE structures and programmes
    • Knowledge and understanding of the English sporting landscape
    • Track record of building strong networking skills to develop relationships
    • Strong planning and organisation skills, with the ability to prioritise, delegate and empower
    • Skilled in sports programme creation, review and development
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including knowledge of Microsoft office and in particular, spreadsheets word processing, email
    • Proven experience in embedding EDI and safeguarding practices at a strategic level
    • Capacity for innovative thinking and introducing new approaches to sports development
    • Ambitious and driven to continually develop new skills and techniques in themselves and others
    • Meticulous attention to detail
    • Desire and passion to make a difference

    Key Information:

    We're all about output so we have Hybrid working and flexible hours in place - it's a full-time role hours per week), but we understand that people have lives outside of BE - please talk to us about what you need. We can't promise anything, but we're open to a discussion about how we can support you. The current hybrid working arrangements are at least 3 days a week on the office (with the core day being Thursday).

    Salary: £45,000 - £50,000Depending on experience
