    Position: Senior Commercial Manager at Colas Rail

    Location: Old Oak Common

    Key Responsibilities

    • Oversee all commercial functions for the relevant depot, route, or region, including Cost Management, Budget Management, Project Specific Management, change control, risk analysis, forecasting, applications, CVRs, and more.
    • Undertake Senior QS/QS duties when required.
    • Review monthly commercial reports and cashflow forecasts before presenting them to the Alliance Management Team.
    • Handle negotiation and commercial management of main and standard subcontract packages.
    • Engage with suppliers and manage subcontracts.
    • Support the operational team in subcontract forecasting, change management, and efficiency reporting.
    • Lead negotiations for long lead items and bulk purchases.
    • Manage Owner Participant subcontracts and key suppliers.
    • Identify and mitigate risks, participate in risk assessment and value management workshops.
    • Support employee development, foster a team-oriented environment, prioritize safety and commercial awareness, and conduct performance development reviews.
    • Ensure all targets, estimates, forecasts, changes, and risks are addressed and agreed upon promptly and in accordance with alliance contract terms.
    • Collaborate with finance, procurement, legal, and project teams to fulfill all contractual, financial, and legal obligations to high standards.
    • Adapt the organization to meet operational needs and changes.
    • Perform any other reasonable duties as necessary.

    Person Specification

    • Requirements:
    • Strong commercial and financial acumen.
    • Familiarity with Network Rail forms of contract and NEC contracts.
    • Experience working with Tier-1 and Tier-2 suppliers.
    • Experience engaging with senior management teams, clients, and contractor teams.
    • Methodical work approach, adept at time management, setting priorities, and meeting deadlines.
    • Team player, effective communicator, and legally savvy regarding contracts.
    • Experience managing commercial solutions during bids.
    • Mentorship capabilities across all commercial grades, adept at staff development and recruitment.
    • Thorough understanding of divisional contract conditions and Cost Value Reconciliation methodology.
    • Proficient in leading and mentoring teams.

    Experience: 5 – 10 years of relevant commercial and cost management experience in the railway and/or construction sector.

    Qualifications: Degree qualification (RICS accredited or equivalent) in Engineering, along with MRICS or equivalent Chartered status or progression towards chartership.
