    Job Specification:
    Head of Operational Finance


    Job Purpose:

    The Head of Operational Finance will have a key role in managing internal financial operations and reporting for the Federation, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness. This position offers financial support and guidance to Head Office departments, schools, and the Federation Senior Leadership Team. Collaboration with the Financial Controller and Director of Finance is essential.

    Experience in the Academy sector is a must for this role.
    Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA)



    Responsibilities:
    • Oversee income and payroll processing for schools and the Federation.
    • Manage BACS and manual payment processes.
    • Optimize central financial processing procedures.
    • Conduct monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
    • Maintain finance handbooks and guidance materials.
    • Implement month-end timelines with the Systems team.
    • Deliver training for various finance teams.
    • Produce and review consolidated monthly accounts.
    • Integrate proposed adjustments to accounts.
    • Prepare submissions for the Department for Education.
    • Coordinate year-end papers for Head Office activities.
    • Liaise with Audit teams.
    • Support ESFA submissions and audits.
    • Oversee inter-academy recharges.
    • Review monthly journals and identify opportunities for improvement.
    • Collaborate across departments to streamline processes.
    • Perform necessary ad hoc tasks.

    Experience:
    • Experience in budget preparation and management account analysis.
    • Strong background in finance, budgeting, and reporting.
    • Track record in team management during change.
    • Year-end audit preparation experience.
    • Proficient in Excel and financial software.
    • Exposure to Oracle Fusion is a plus.
