In addition to teaching a class, we are looking for a practising Catholic to lead RE across our school and this comes with a TLR. We are looking for somebody with a Catholic Certificate in Religious Studies (CCRS), or demonstrates a willingness to achieve it. We want someone who is passionate about education and can demonstrate a secure understanding of what good practice looks like. Most importantly we are looking for teachers with high expectations and a positive and flexible approach who see and value the potential in every child.

    About the Role
    Specific responsibilities for Religious Education Subject Leader

    • Be a practicing Catholic – this is a protected post in a Catholic School and ideally have a CCRS certificate or equivalent.
    • Know, and live the school's mission daily. Contribute to and remind senior leaders of reviews and revisits to ensure it is current for the needs of the whole school community at this time in the life of the school.
    • To have an up-to-date knowledge of your own vision (contained within the mission of the school) and enthusiasm for the subject.
    • To lead the staff by good example and practice.
    • In consultation with Senior Management to ensure that the Mission Statement and policies related to Religious Education are implemented and reviewed at regular intervals. This may include Collective Worship, Spiritual and Moral Development, Sacramental Preparation, PSHE / Citizenship, RSHE and Pastoral Care.
    • Work closely with the RSHE/PSHE lead to ensure that all elements of RSHE are compliant with Catholic Church teaching.
    • To be responsible to the Senior Management and colleagues for the monitoring and evaluation of timetables, teaching, learning, assessment and planning of Religious Education. This will involve scrutiny of planning, assessments and children's work and observation of teaching and learning and display and prayers spaces around the school.
    • To manage resources and facilities for Religious Education and ensure resources are up to date.
    • To liaise with the Archdiocesan Education Department particularly through attendance at the Subject Leader briefings, and to keep Senior Management and colleagues informed of current standards and developments within Religious Education. Share the termly newsletter with all members of the school community including governors and your parish priest.
    • To organise regular school based in-service activities including leading prayer and organising Liturgies as appropriate.
    • To advise and support individual colleagues and to induct new members of staff as required on the Religious Education Directory processes and teaching methods and to promote the Catholic Certificate for Religious Studies (CCRS). This will include keeping the Religious Education Handbook up to date.
    • To set up and maintain a portfolio of samples of work and assessments in order to monitor standards, progression and continuity. This should reflect the appropriate Religious Education end of year age related expectations in the Religious Education Directory.
    • In consultation with Senior Management to communicate with parents, governors and the parish community regarding issues associated with Religious Education.
    • To liaise with other primary and secondary colleagues across the Key Stages in matters concerning Catholic Life and Mission, Religious Education and Prayer and Liturgy (Collective Worship).
    • Working with the Senior Management, Governors and colleagues, to complete the annual Catholic School Evaluation Document (CSED) and undertake a regular audit/review of Religious Education in line with the school development plan.
    • To ensure the effective planning and delivery of Prayer and Liturgy (Collective Worship) throughout the school that complies with Archdiocesan guidelines.

    • Ability to offer expertise in a curriculum area. Catholic Certificate in Religious Studies (CCRS) - You should either have it already or show a commitment to achieving it on appointment
    • Able to differentiate the curriculum for children of different abilities.
    • Able to organise a stimulating and well organised classroom.
    • Able to use assessment to inform planning and target setting to meet the needs of individual pupils and groups.
    • Ability to form positive relationships with children, staff, parents and governors. Competent in the use of technology.
    • Able to deploy support staff effectively. Teaching experience or placement in the relevant key stage.
    • Demonstrate effectiveness in time management and working as part of a team.
    • Positive person who is enthusiastic and able to inspire children and staff.
    • Able to contribute to the caring family atmosphere maintaining confidentiality. Good attendance record.
    • Willingness to be involved in extended school activities including residential visits and events.
    • Promote and support extra-curricular activities. Commitment to Catholic ethos.
