    Bilingual Speech and Language Therapy Assistant (Roma-Slovak)
    Sheffield Children's NHS Foundation Trust

    We are looking for a Speech & Language Therapy Assistant to join our mainstream schools paediatric team, supporting therapists working within the bilingual pathway, particularly the Roma-Slovak community.

    The successful applicant will be a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual who can work with our Speech and Language Therapists to support children with communication needs.

    A key element of this post will be supporting therapists to complete first language assessments, and work with bilingual families, particularly in the Roma-Slovak community.

    A high level of fluency in Roma-Slovak is therefore required. The role will include working flexibly across schools, clinic settings and client's homes within Sheffield. e regular supervision from a senior therapist and participate in in-service training and team meetings.
    This is fixed term post (10 months) - 15 hours per week over 2 days.

    To provide professional, accurate and effective interpretation in Roma-Slovak allowing clients and their families to access the Speech and Language Therapy Service.

    To support therapists to complete first language assessments in Roma-Slovak

    To develop, implement and monitor speech and language therapy programmes, in consultation with a Speech & Language Therapist (SLT), for individual and/or groups of children with communication needs, where English is not the primary language.

    All assistants are required to undertake a programme of continuous professional development, which forms part of the individual performance review system.

    oA high level of fluency/spoken competency in Roma-Slovak
    oworking with children aged 5 to 11 years.
    oEngaging with children with a range of complex needs including language disorder, emotional and behavioural needs, and autism.
    oWorking in a bilingual clinical role such as a teaching assistant, therapy assistant or interpreter.
    oWorking with speech and language therapists.

    oAwareness and knowledge of the Roma-Slovak culture and an ability to sensitively draw attention to any cultural aspects which may affect effect communication.

    This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
