    Job Overview

    Cambuslang based Care Home are looking for a part time Chef/Cook to take responsibility for , organising and controlling the efficient and economic production of quality food within the allowed budget, whilst maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene in line with Environment Health Office regulations.

    Main Duties and Responsibilities Key Tasks

    • Prepare, cook, and serve hot and cold meals as and when required.
    • Provide for special dietary requirements where necessary and take into account the preferences of individual residents.
    • Develop and create menus taking into consideration the residents' dietary requirements and preferences.
    • Liaise with the Home Manager when planning/costing menus in order to provide a balanced nutritious diet, making the best use of available fresh foods.
    • Participate in staff and resident meetings as required.
    • Supervise and instruct Kitchen Staff Members in the use of all equipment and hygiene procedures, giving help and guidance where appropriate.
    • Conduct Basic Food Hygiene training for all Care Centre Staff involved in handling food.
    • Maintain and improve professional knowledge and competence.
    • Attend mandatory training days/courses, on or off site as and when required.
    • Maintain accurate records of food supplies, and freezer/fridge temperatures.
    • Ensure stock rotation.
    • Assist in the ordering of stocks and checking of deliveries, check and value stocks as required by the Home Manager.
    • Prepare staff rota for Kitchen as and when required by the Home Manager.
    • Interview for new Staff Members with the Home Manager when required.
    • Ensure all crockery and equipment is cleaned and stored appropriately, and that the overall cleaning of the kitchen area and dining areas is carried out effectively following COSHH guidelines.
    • Ensure statutory Health & Safety standards in the kitchen and dining areas.
    • Report immediately to the Home Manager or Person in Charge any illness of an infectious nature or accident incurred by a Service Users, colleague, self, or another.
    • Understand and ensure implementation of the Care Homes Health & Safety and Emergency Fire procedures.
    • Report to the Home Manager, Handyperson or Person in Charge any faulty appliances, damaged furniture, equipment, or any other potential hazard.
    • Understand safeguarding responsibilities, develop understanding and skills to reduce the risk of abuse or neglect to adults who need care and support, and safeguard adults in a way that recognises their choice and control.
    • Ensure that all information of a confidential nature gained in the course of duty is not divulged to third parties.
    • Adhere to all company policies and procedures within the defined timescales.
    • Carry out any other tasks that may be reasonably assigned to you.

    Employer Expectations Skills/Knowledge/Experience etc

    • Team player.
    • Good communication skills.
    • Ability to work on own initiative.
    • Experience of food preparation for relevant Service User group would be an advantage.
    • Previous management or supervisory experience would be an advantage.

    Qualifications/Tickets/Licences Required

    • Two satisfactory references.
    • Satisfactory Policy Check and check against Disclosure Scotland.
    • Basic Food Hygiene Certificate required.
    • Intermediate Food Hygiene Certificate would be an advantage.
