- To provide advanced physiotherapeutic assessments of patients within the oncology service who may have diverse presentations and complex physical and psychological conditions, to provide a diagnosis and develop and deliver an individualised treatment programme in relation to oncology patients and other inpatients across the Trust.
- To be responsible for own case-load within a predominantly Cancer Service ward, working without direct supervision. Supervision takes the form of regular formal training, individual monthly reviews with the Lead Physiotherapist for Inpatients, annual appraisal and clinical supervision.
- To support the development of the oncology inpatient service both within the Cancer Centre and across the Trust.
- Access to advice and support from a Lead Physiotherapist is available if required, clinical work is not regularly evaluated.
- To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner.
- To work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team and integrate working practices with community partners in order to facilitate timely discharge and readmission avoidance.
- To train and develop band 5, assistant staff and students.
- To undertake evidence based audit and/or research to further own and teams clinical practice. Make recommendations to Therapy Leads/Service Lead regarding changes to practice and/or service policies and protocols.

- To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of your own work including the management of patients in your care.
- To undertake the comprehensive holistic assessment of patients, including those with a complex presentation/multi-pathologies; use advanced clinical reasoning skills and manual assessment techniques to provide an accurate diagnosis of their condition. In particular with patients in the cancer service.
- To comply with the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct.
- To maintain own continuing professional development (CPD) by keeping abreast of any new trends and developments, and incorporate them as necessary into your work.
- To be responsible for the supervision and coordination of junior staff, students and assistants on a daily basis, in conjunction with the Lead Therapists as required.
- To ensure that your own practice and that of staff under your supervision meet the required professional standards of physiotherapy practice
- Physiotherapy Degree/Diploma or equivalent professional qualification
- Registered with UK Health and Care Professions Council
- Evidence of CPD including attendance at recent post graduate courses

- Experience in the NHS
- Broad range of experience as an autonomous practitioner and band 5 or 6 level in acute and chronic respiratory care, acute and chronic rehabilitation and musculoskeletal work

Specialist Physiotherapist in Cancer Services
Department: Therapies

Hours: per week. All MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working
Our Therapy Department is currently looking for an enthusiastic Band 6 physiotherapist to become part of our therapy team being established for our Cancer Centre.
Working as part of a dedicated and skilled Cancer Services team you will be providing a holistic therapy approach to cancer patients in an inpatient setting. There is a strong expectation to collaborate with all members of the MDT to ensure the complex needs of patients are always at the centre of your care.
Previous experience of working within an inpatient and cancer setting are essential. An ability to demonstrate a proactive flexible approach and to be able to work well on own initiative is essential. Demonstrable skills in service development are desirable, along with a keen interest in educating fellow healthcare colleagues.
