Head of Architecture - Milton Keynes, United Kingdom - Rightmove
Description
Head of Architecture
Location: London Reporting to: Technology Director
About Rightmove
Rightmove is the UK's number one property portal, with a vision to empower everyone with the belief that
they can make their move. Our mission is to simplify the moving process, providing a comprehensive
platform where users can access the tools, expertise, and trust necessary to facilitate their journey. As the
property portal of choice, our ambition is underscored by our commitment to being a sustainable business
that attracts top talent, investment, and partnerships.
The role
As the Head of Architecture at Rightmove, you will be at the helm of our technology strategy during a
pivotal phase of expansion. This role is not just about managing systems; it's about embodying our vision to
"make the move easier and simpler" through innovative technology solutions. You will lead the charge in
integrating and evolving a broad array of systems, from cutting-edge in-house software to third-party
solutions, within a modern, containerised, microservices-based architecture. This position offers a unique
opportunity to influence the future of the UK's leading property portal and contribute to a mission that
impacts millions.
Key responsibilities
• Craft and execute a comprehensive architecture strategy, ensuring it supports the company's
broader goals.
• Collaborate with senior leadership across technology and product development to influence
strategic decision-making, ensuring architectural strategies are integrated with business objectives.
• Lead and expand the architecture team, integrating new talents to accommodate our growth.
• Oversee a diverse technology landscape, bringing together in-house developed software and thirdparty applications to create a cohesive ecosystem.
• Collaborate with the data and analytics team to support the growth and integration of the data and
analytics platform, ensuring its architecture is aligned with the broader company architecture and
effectively supports business objectives.
• Ensure our architecture remains agile and scalable, facilitating quick adaptation to market changes
and new opportunities.
• Engage with the software engineering community to uphold engineering excellence, ensuring the
appropriate definition and use of standards, patterns, and the evolution of tools.
Requirements
• A proven leader with extensive experience in technology architecture, ideally within a techforward, dynamic environment.
• A visionary with a solid understanding of modern architecture principles, including containerisation
and microservices, and how they can be leveraged to support Rightmove's mission.
• Demonstrable experience in managing a variety of technology systems, emphasizing both in-house
developments and external solutions.
• A strategic thinker, capable of aligning technology initiatives with broader business goals and the
unique needs of the property market.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
• A track record of fostering an open, collaborative culture, and supporting and developing a diverse
workforce
