    Vertex Pharmaceuticals is looking for a Senior Accountant II / Assistant Manager to join its team and support the accounting operations for within its International Financial Shared Service Centre ("IFSSC") based in London, United Kingdom.

    Located in the Accounting team, the role is a key part of the end-to-end Record-To-Report ("RTR") function for 20+ countries.

    The successful candidate will play a vital role in maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with the company's accounting policies, and supporting Vertex's financial objectives.

    Your expertise will contribute to the efficiency and effectiveness of Vertex's financial operations on a global scale.

    The position will partner with other members of the accounting team as well as with teams across other departments, including Treasury, Accounts Payables, Revenue, Finance and Business Partners around the globe.

    Leveraging analytical skills and accounting expertise the successful candidate will have the opportunity to make suggestions and implement improvements to ensure continuous enhancement of the international organisation.

    Maintain the general ledger by recording journal entries, reconciling accounts, and resolving discrepancies to provide a clear and accurate financial picture.

    Maintain fixed asset records, including depreciation schedules and asset tracking, to support accurate financial reporting and compliance with accounting standards.

    Maintain accurate lease accounting in accordance with IFRS 16 / ASC 842 for the international organisations lease portfolio.

    Support with the completion, review and analyse of financial statement accounts, including monthly and quarterly balance sheet and Income statement fluctuations variance (Flux) analysis and reconciliations (in Blackline) for several general ledger accounts across Vertex's various entities.

    Ensure internal policies and SOX procedures and controls are adhered to.
    Assist the team handling of any non-routine reporting transactions and ad-hoc accounting projects as required.
    Build a partnership of trust and open communication with Vertex's other accounting and finance functions and key stakeholders.
    Assist with internal audit and SOX queries, including any audit questions as required.
    Previous experience in a similar accounting role.
    Strong understanding of international accounting standards (e.g., GAAP) and regulatory requirements.
    Excellent Microsoft Office skills including advanced Excel expertise able of manipulating large data sets and modelling skills.
    Oracle R12, OBIEE, HFM / SMART View (Essbase data sources) and / or Blackline experience is an advantage.
    Knowledge / experience working in a corporate accounting environment, preferably at a Financial Shared Service Centre.
    Biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry experience is an advantage.
    Qualified accountant or working towards an accounting qualification or ACA/ACCA/CIMA
    Previous experience in a similar accounting role.
    Strong understanding of international accounting standards (e.g., GAAP) and regulatory requirements.
    Excellent Microsoft Office skills including advanced Excel expertise able of manipulating large data sets and modelling skills.
    Oracle R12, OBIEE, HFM / SMART View (Essbase data sources) and / or Blackline experience is an advantage.
