    Job summary

    We are recruiting a permanent Band 6 Deputy Ward Manager to join Mersey Care's Brain Injury Rehabilitation service. We are a 12 bedded ward providing an assessment/rehab service for adults experiencing cognitive/behavioural/psychological difficulties following a moderate to severe acquired brain injury

    We are looking for the right candidate to: support the ward leadership team; contribute to the delivery of excellent care to our patients; help our service develop; help maintain our accreditation with brain injury charity Headway

    Our qualified Nurses within Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust are supported to provide the highest possible care, with access to training and development, with many being offered the opportunity to support their learning with post registration training opportunities so we welcome all applicants to join the management team.

    Main duties of the job

    Provide effective leadership via both managerial and clinical supervision & act a a senior nurse role model on the ward to patients and colleagues.

    Represent the service at meetings as required, deputising for ward manager when required.

    Ensure the effective deployment of staff and other resources to deliver the required service and the agreed standards. Participate in the recruitment and selection process in accordance with Trust policy.

    Ensure the principles of Clinical Governance are incorporated in service delivery by maintaining a high quality service based on agreed clinical standards

    Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to deliver high quality, person-centred care to patients.

  • 1. To support the Ward Manager and other Band 6s in providing clinical advice, expertise and leadership to allWard To take a key role in ensuring Service Users care plans are developed to meet the assessedneeds of the individual . To monitor the care plans developed with patients, where necessary to supervise and train others to carry out and deliver To ensure a seamless approach by liasing with other professionals .4. To liase appropriately with family members, carers and significant others with regards to theassessment of patients. To refer to the Modern Matron as necessary. To support theWard Manager in addressing and resolving concerns by patients and Carers sensitivelyand To assist the Ward Manager monitor and work with the ward team to ensure that patientrisk is assessed and managed appropriately, and that risk management plans are of ahigh To direct and supervise ward staff, in order to ensure delivery of a high standard of care To assist the Ward Manager in identified clinical audit projects and setting standards for care . Ensure that the ward team maintains standards. Assistthe Modern Matron in the implementation of change arising from new To support the Ward Manager in ensuring that the ward resources are managed appropriatelyto maximise care and efficient work patterns. This will include tasks such as producing rotas,management of sickness and absence, annual leave and extra resources, keeping theModern Matron informed at all To use skills gained through experience to communicate with members of your team in theimplementation of change and in the interest of good, cohesive team To have a working knowledge of Mental Health Law and its implications for practice11. To liase with other professionals offering a service within the ward to ensure a high quality ofservice To ensure the delivery of patients' rehab programmes13. To ensure that all relevant information with regards to a patient's care and treatment isdocumented accurately and legibly into the health record. Supervise and monitor the entriesmade by junior team members, through performance management and To assist the Ward Manager in the implementation of change or new systems within the To ensure that all incidents or near misses are documented as per Trust policy and that anyfollow-up action is To co-ordinate the team in order to ensure that medical emergencies are actedon promptly and To support and assist the ward team develop care plans that enable patients to reachand maintain their optimum level of health and To ensure the safe administration of medication to patients, ensuring that the Nursingand Midwifery Council regulations are To take part in the implementation of the Trusts PDP process for all staff in the ward To act as a mentor to junior staff and To support the Ward Manager to provide reports and statistical returns to a variety of Trustdepartments and approved external audit agencies as To assist the Ward Manager tackle any unsatisfactory performance promptly andconstructively..
  • Person Specification

    Qualifications

    Essential

  • Registered Mental Health Nurse.
  • Desirable

  • First line management Leo
  • Evidence of post registration study / continuing professional development ENB 998 / Mentorship in Practice or D32, 33 NVQ
  • Approved training in phlebotomy.
  • Experience

    Essential

  • Relevant experience at band 5 or above.
  • Desirable

  • Proven experience of leadership and management
  • Experience of working with patients with brain injury
  • Knowledge & Skills

    Essential

  • Able to communicate effectively both verbally and non-verbally.
  • Possess excellent listening and negotiation skills.
  • Knowledge of relevant Mental Health legislation.
  • Knowledge of clinical risk and Health & Safety Management
  • Demonstrate knowledge of CPA .
  • Ability to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Demonstrate knowledge in the concepts of mentorship, preceptorship and supervision and ability to provide education and supervision to qualified and unqualified staff.
  • Demonstrate a good knowledge of the Code of Conduct and the nurses' responsibility to identify gaps in their knowledge base.
