    Job summary

    We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, innovative, motivated and registered general nurse to join our colorectal nursing team within Bowel Dysfunction.

    The post holder will play a pivotal role in the functioning of the Colorectal Nursing Service and be a key member of the team working to deliver a high-quality patient experience. The post holder will be required to provide holistic care and support to patients and their families affected by Bowel dysfunction and Pelvic floor related conditions. You will provide specialist nursing advice and facilitate care throughout the patient pathway acting as the patients advocate. The colorectal nursing team are a well -established team who provide an autonomous colorectal nursing service both within an inpatient and outpatient setting. This includes a number of nurse led initiatives including practical stoma care teaching, nurse led outpatient clinics, a designated telephone support line by using advanced clinical judgement and expert knowledge of the specialty. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic and experienced, who enjoys both patient contact and working as part of the multidisciplinary will be expected to participate in decision making, education of patients and staff, research and service development. We are looking for a dependable and adaptable individual who is able to work independently and has the ability to fit in as part of the team.

    Main duties of the job

    The post holder will play a pivotal role in the functioning of the Colorectal Nursing Service and be a key member of the team working to deliver a high quality patient experience. The post holder will be required to provide holistic care and support to patients and their families affected by Bowel Dysfunction related benign disease and stoma formation. You will provide specialist nursing advice and facilitate care throughout the patient pathway while acting as the patients advocate.

    The post holder will be provided with a robust on the job induction from the core team and there will be personal development opportunities. Flexibility, excellent communication skills and a team player are vital to this role.

    You will provide supervision, education and coaching to allied health care professionals demonstrating leadership expertise in planning, motivation, coordination and commercial awareness

    About us

    We are one of the largest centres for Colorectal surgery in Europe. The John Goligher Colorectal unit is a major tertiary referral centre for diseases of the small and large bowel, the rectum and anus.

    Specialist nurse will facilitate a seamless and co-ordinated approach to support patients through a variety of treatment pathways which may be multi-modality.

    As a key member of the specialist multi-disciplinary team you will carry continuing responsibility for a defined caseload, including the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care.

    The post holder will need to have excellent communication skills, be highly motivated and be able to work well in a team. Experience and knowledge in Colorectal disease is desirable. Plus treatment modalities and ensuring patients are in the best possible condition treatment and /or surgery.
