    MidYorkshire Teaching Trust is looking for a highly motivated, dynamic and enthusiastic Matron to join our Maternity team,with an initial portfolio of selected elements from both inpatient andoutpatient areas.

    Approximately4,600 women each year birth at Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust. Weprovide antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care across the Wakefield districtand North Kirklees. We offer four choices of place of birth: home, freestandingbirth centre at Dewsbury District Hospital and the alongside birth centre andconsultant-led delivery suite in Wakefield.

    AtMid Yorkshire Teaching Trust we are continuing to implement the National MaternityTransformation Programme alongside our colleagues in the Local Maternity andNeonatal System (LMNS) the Maternity Voices Partnership (MVP) and othercommunity partners.

    The Three Year Delivery Plan for Maternityand Neonatal services and outcomes from Ockenden and East Kent reportingprovide a clear steer on high quality, safe care with improved outcomes, all ofwhich form part of our co-produced Maternity Strategy.

    Main duties of the job

    The successful candidate will demonstrate;

    EffectiveLeadership of the Midwifery Service.

    Will have the Responsibilityfor overseeing the management of the service, managing staff and liaising withothers as necessary.

    They will act as a role modelto others, providing specialist expertise that is underpinned by sometheoretical knowledge and practical clinical experience and competence.

    Job description

    Job responsibilities

    With the wider maternity staff team contributeto the realisation of the Maternity Strategy. Maternity transformation plan andthe development of quality services.

    Establish and contribute to the continuingdevelopment of the Midwifery service philosophy of care, ensuring that it iscongruent with the beliefs and values upheld within the clinical setting.

    Implement a systematic approach to midwiferycare based on accepted evidence based models, ensuring that care is planned,implemented and evaluated in line with agreed standards, which are robustlyevidence based and planned in partnership with the patient. Utilise thecontribution of support staff appropriately.

    Ensure that multi-disciplinary continuity ofcarer pathways are implemented.

    Keep staff informed on current clinical issuesand professional development.

    Maintain clinical records in accordance with NMCCode requirements

    Ensure that a suitably sized sample of clinicalrecords are audited at least every six months planned home births, BBAs,models of ante or post-natal care, labour records etc.

    Provide statements as necessary within therequired time frames.

    Ensure medicines are stored, supplied andadministered in accordance with Trust Medicines Guidelines and professionalguidance, and that practices are audited at least annually.

    Act as an advocate for patients and theirfamilies including the facilitation of choice and provision of support.

    Ensure clinical procedures are performedcompetently and that support is available for staff in the form of clinicalprocedure documents, SOPs and training opportunities.

    Respond to health emergencies and where practicablecontribute to the direct care of patients as needed.

    Understand the role of the Midwifery Advisor(MA) and inform the ADN/Head of Midwifery, Midwifery manager on call of anycircumstances in which safe and appropriate care for mothers and babies cannotbe or has not been provided.

    Investigate and act upon any reports ofcircumstances in which safe care cannot or has not been provided, reporting tothe Assistant Director of Nursing and Midwifery in a timely manner.

    Ensure staff have the necessary equipment toundertake their role, are using the equipment safely and that this isappropriately monitored.

    Ensure patient administration IT systems areused in accordance with Trust policies and that staff are appropriatelytrained.

    Ensure appropriate timely communication withpatients, relatives and carers, advising and supporting them as needed. Ensuresupport systems translators, bereavement, chaplaincy etc are usedappropriately.

    Ensure the availability of relevant, up to datepatient information in a user friendly, accessible format.

    Ensure effective multidisciplinary team workingacross the service and also with external agencies.
