    Job summary

    We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated professional to lead our Child Well Being Practitioner will have extensive clinical experience of working in CAMHS, Children's Services or in Mental Health servicesAs a Clinical Service Lead, you will be part of Lewisham CAMHS Senior Leadership Team at a time of expansion and developmentincluding the implementation of the IThrive Framework. You will play a core role in the development and expansion of the Lewisham GP youth clinic, bringing CWP expertise to this initiative to support our young people in a non-clinical setting. You will also have the opportunity to retain clinical role within the team.Lewisham CAMHS is actively collaborating with partners across Social Care, Primary Care and Third Sector in developing responsive services foryoung people and their families, using the nationally recognized IThrive model. As a team leader, you will be supporting our co-productioninnovative work that aims to have young people and families at the core of our service.

    Main duties of the job

    The post holder will further be responsible to support local workforce development in the line with local and national transformation plans. Working with the Getting help- CAMHS Schools and Well-being general manager and Lewisham CAMHS Service Manager to ensure a coordinated approach this includes:

  • Operational: covers the structural management of the team, including clear lines of reporting and how they function in line with education and mental health governance, the process for escalating any problems or issues.
  • Quality assurance: ensuring the team delivers consistent, high-quality mental health support, care and interventions, with appropriate and adequate clinical supervision.
  • Strategic: monitoring key outcomes and implementing regular evaluations to allow for continued learning, innovation and improvement.
  • Providing essential management and supervision requirements fundamental to the success of the ongoing or newly developed roles. This includes: Clinical case management, and professional support Having oversight of training relevant to the CWP workforce and linking in regularly with the HEI Providing service assurance of placement suitability for CWPs in training.
  • Work as an autonomous professional within BPS/HCPC/BABCP/UKCP guidelines and codes of conduct and guided by principles and policies or procedures of the service, taking responsibility for interpreting policies within defined parameters.

    Lewisham CAMHS borough Services

    Lewisham CAMHS serves the borough of Lewisham through a number of specialist and generic teams, working across the community. We work closely with local partners, including the local authority and education, and providers (such as commissioned counselling provisions, charity sector and adult SLaM services).

    Each of the teams have team managers and most have consultant psychiatrists at the leadership. The teams include Horizon (Generic), Neurodevelopmental (NDT), Mental Health Schools Team (MHST) Crisis and Intake-Duty who are based in Kaleidoscope. LYPS, Child Wellbeing Practitioner service (CWP), and SYMBOL (LAC team) are based at 78 Lewisham Park. The ARTS (forensics) service is based in Holbeach.

    We also work very closely with our national and specialist CAMHS services, which has a formidable reputation nationally and internationally, and are made up of a broad range of outpatient clinics, and five inpatient units.

    Job responsibilities

    Clinical and Client Care

  • To provide assessments, formulations and interventions for clients referred to the Mental Health Support Team and /or to offer supervision to other members of the team in providing those.
  • Support and empower children, young people and families to make informed choices about the intervention.
  • To support children and young people experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties and their families in the self-management of presenting difficulties.
  • To work in partnership with families to provide culturally appropriate psychological interventions with carers or families of referred clients when required.
  • To assess and monitor risk and draw up appropriate risk management plans.
  • To act as care co-ordinator taking responsibility for the oversight of cases within the Mental Health Support team.
  • Provide support for CWPs in using CYP IAPT compliant routine outcome measures.
  • Ensure clear objectives are identified, discussed and reviewed with CWPs on a regular basis as part of their continuing professional development.
  • Contributing to team or service clinical functioning

  • To contribute to the effective working of the team or service and to a psychologically informed framework for the service.
  • To contribute to the team or services delivery of accessible and acceptable services to diverse local communities.
  • To be proactive in challenging discrimination and support the development of culturally competent services.
  • To advise other members of the service on specialist psychological care of clients.
  • Where appropriate to liaise with referrers, GPs and other professionals concerned with clients in order to develop and review care plans.
  • To utilise theory, evidence-based literature, and research to support evidence-based practice in individual work and work with other team members.
  • Policy and service development

  • To implement policies and procedures in own area of work, and to propose improvements or beneficial changes.
  • To contribute to service development through undertaking and participating in appropriate projects related to the CWP training programmes.
  • To contribute to the consultation and engagement of service users in planning and delivering services which meet the needs of local communities.
  • Care or management of resources

  • To take care of, and use carefully, the Trusts equipment and physical resources.
  • To ensure that the post-holder has sufficient resources by estimating future needs and requesting or ordering supplies as needed.
  • Manage staff leave, sickness etc. on E-Rostering system.
  • Management and supervision

  • To select cases for the trainee and trained CWP workers so that targeted psychological assessments, formulations and interventions for clients can be achieved.
  • To provide intensive supervision to CWP trainees and supervision of qualified practitioners
  • To provide supervision to b6 and 7 qualified practitioners
  • To contribute to appraisals
  • To contribute to the recruitment of trainees and Practitioners.

  • Teaching and Training

  • To undertake occasional teaching and training of EMHPs and CWPs
  • To contribute to the development of the knowledge and skills base within the Mental Health Support service by maintaining an active awareness of current developments in psychology and the trailblazer developments and by implementing knowledge gained in training to practice.
  • Where appropriate to disseminate research and service evaluation findings through presentations and published articles.
  • Record-keeping and Information Governance

  • To ensure that all information generated by own work is recorded as required by Trust policies. The HEI and local procedures.
  • To maintain the highest standards of clinical record keeping and report writing, according to professional and Trust guidelines, including electronic data entry.
  • Research and development

  • To initiate, undertake, support and supervise service evaluation and audits
  • To provide expertise in a specialist research area, which will contribute to the Mental Health Support team.
  • To initiate and implement the development of outcome measurement and assessment and assist other staff in the implementation of same.
  • Maintaining professional standards and continuing professional development

  • To receive regular clinical and professional supervision from a more senior clinician according to Professional and Trust guidelines.
  • To ensure own Continuing Professional Development in line with Professional and Trust Personal Development Plan requirements and Standards for Continuing Professional Development.
  • To maintain an up-to-date knowledge of current developments in professional and clinical practice and of relevant legislation and policies.
  • To comply with Professional Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics and Standards of Proficiency, and ensure professional development in line with these.
  • To adhere to Professional Practice Guidelines and Trust policies and procedures.
  • General

  • To travel to as appropriate and across the Trust when required.
  • To be aware of risk relating to aggressive and challenging behaviour amongst the client group, and follow trust policies relating to its management.
  • To respond appropriately and professionally to emotionally distressing situations and to support others involved in such situations.

    Qualifications

    Essential

  • oQualifications and Professional Registration: Entry-level qualification: appropriately registered Educational/ Clinical/Counselling psychologist, Systemic Family Therapist, Psychotherapist, Nurse, OT, Social Work CBT Therapist and registration with relevant UK governing body (A/I)
  • oCompleted training course in clinical supervision. (A/I/R)
  • oEvidence of continuing professional development as required by relevant Professional body HCPC/UKCP/RCN/ SWE/ BABCP (A/I)
  • Desirable

  • oPG qualification in CWP supervision course
  • oPG qualification in Leading on Transformation & Change in CYP mental health and wellbeing services
  • Experience

    Essential

  • oEvidence of having worked as a clinical specialist with children, young people and their families under supervision. (A/I)
  • oExperience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients with a range of psychological needs of a complex nature in CAMHS. (A/I)
  • oExperience of supervising and having completed the relevant training. (A/I)
  • oPost-qualification experience that supports working with, and addressing issues of, diversity within local communities. (A/I)
  • oExperience of carrying out research, audit or service evaluation projects.

  • oExperience of previous working with CWP or EMHP trainees.

  • oHighly developed knowledge of the theory and practice of evidence-based therapies for child and adolescents (A/I/R)
