    About the Role

    An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly skilled and experienced Teacher of Deaf children and young people to contribute to the success of the Hearing Support Team by joining the team as a Team Manager.

    The Hearing Support Team (HST) is a well-regarded and welcoming team, consisting of Teachers of Deaf children and young people, an Educational Audiologist, Hearing Support Practitioners, a BSL tutor and an Audiological Technician. As part of Specialist Teaching Service, the Hearing Support Team aim to improve opportunities, outcomes and experiences for children and young people with SEND in partnership with families, educational settings and organisations.

    The management role includes recruitment and effective management of staff, including performance management, team development and supporting wellbeing. The HST manager is responsible for leading on the review and development of service delivery, working in partnership with schools, educational settings and other agencies, and coordinating resources to meet increasing demands.

    You will be supporting and managing staff with a caseload responsibility and will have a small caseload responsibility also, so will be confident in approaches to teaching and providing support and advice to deaf children and young people (0-25 years), their families, carers, and educational settings within a multi-agency context.

    Leicestershire's Hearing Support team is fortunate to have a specialist audiological clinic which is used by our own Educational Audiologist, Audiological Technician and Health Audiologists. Management of this provision and close liaison and strategic work with Health teams are key parts of this role.

    Other duties will include, managing the staffing of Hearing Support Centre (HSC) Secondary resource provision, oversight of preschool work and new baby procedures, reviewing and developing pathways and procedures and budget management.

    Support will be provided by the Service Manager, other STS Team Managers and knowledgeable Hearing Support Team. There will be a wide range of professional development available, including access to training and mentoring

    About You

    To apply for this post, you must have:

  • Qualified Teacher of Deaf children and young people, with evidence of ongoing training and development
  • Leadership experience in monitoring, evaluating, reviewing, and developing team performance, including experience of effective management in the appointment, professional development and deployment of staff
  • Knowledge of effective teaching and learning approaches, including training delivery, to support the attainment and inclusion of pupils with SEND, particularly pupils with a diagnosis of deafness or hearing loss
  • Experience of working in partnership with education settings, Health and other support services and agencies to improve outcomes for pupils
  • Significant experience of working appropriately in accordance with relevant statutory and local policies and procedures for SEND and the ability carry out all duties in line with LCC Safeguarding policies and procedures and fulfil relevant safeguarding competencies
  • Ability to actively demonstrate the values of the authority: Positivity; Trust and respect; Flexibility; Openness and transparency
  • Must be able to perform all duties and tasks with reasonable adjustment, where appropriate, in accordance with the provisions of the Equality Act 2010. This will include requirements to work flexibly around holiday periods in line with the service requirements and access to a vehicle with the ability to travel to temporary bases such as schools, touch-down bases etc
