Description
We are recruiting for a Head of Service - Audiology who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.
Do you have senior clinical leadership experience that will support change? if so, we have an exacting opportunity to join East & North Herts as the Head of Service for Audiology.
The post holder will be the consultant level healthcare science leader of the Audiology service, with responsibility for the delivery, quality assurance and on-going development of services, working across our four sites.
The Head of Service will work with the Corporate Leads, General Managers, Clinical Directors, Service Managers to enable the identification, scoping, agreement and delivery of specific quality and efficiency improvement projects and programmes which help to deliver a culture of continuous improvement within the Audiology Department including the Newborn Screening Service.
This will include participating in the development and implementation of national and local policy across the department to ensure that patients receive the highest quality of evidence-based care.
You will work to modernise referral pathways, leading on key projects with the clinical director and general manager to support improved delivery of clinical services and support implementation of renewed processes which further improve patient care within the department.
Quality assurance and clinical governance
Financial integrity
Personnel management
Referral to treatment compliance and reporting
Audit and delivery of Trust policies and procedures of the department
Support for allied activity, including ENT
Promote the application of good scientific practice (as defined by the Academy of Healthcare Science) across the service.

Qualifications / TrainingSuccessfully attained the Scientist Training Programme (or equivalent e.g. CAC,HTS) Current HCPC statutory registration as Clinical Scientist (Audiology)
Evidence of active continual professional development (CPD) in accordance with statutory registration body
Relevant post-graduate Healthcare Management /Leadership Qualifications
On Academy of Healthcare Science (AHCS) Higher Specialist Scientific Register (HSRR)
Project management qualification Higher level degree PRINCE 2 Doctorate degree (PhD or AuD) or equivalent level of knowledge in Audiology
Extensive experience in provision in clinical audiological services underpinned by advanced expert/specialist theoretical knowledge (breadth and depth)
Proven experience of full accountability and responsibility for all aspects of a clinical audiology services, regional and tertiary service (diagnostic, rehabilitative, adult and paediatric)
Able to work autonomously with proven senior level Clinical Scientist leadership in all aspects of audiological services
Have significant evidence of management and leadership experience and acumen
Proven experience in leadership of service redesign and commissioning discussions Proven experience of research, author, or co-author of peer reviewed research papers
Experience of previous project management within Audiology
Excellent working knowledge of NHSP Advanced planning and organisational skills
Ability to carry out all testing to a high standard using equipment competently and with accuracy
To be able to perform and have a scientific understanding / able to provide the interpretation of the results of various types audiometric/ electrophysiological testing available in the Audiology practice
Experience of analysing complex data with multiple components of information in both qualitative and quantitative formats.
Knowledge of research, audit, data collection and analysis methodologies.
A commitment to and proven interest in improving scientific practice and its direct application to patient care in a clinical environment including:
Awareness of and involvement in professional affairs and policy development at national level
Proven ability to make policy decisions for future clinical provision of the audiological services and evidence of taking responsibility for implementation.
Ability to analyse and interpret highly complex scientific, technical and medical information/dataAbility to make sound scientific, clinical and managerial judgements based on interpreting highly complex results, facts or situations to provide advice even in cases where expert opinions differ
Sound financial budgetary and management skills
Able to plan and prioritise complex workload for audiological services demonstrable ability to supervise and take responsibility
Evidence of Achieving Transformation which has resulted in positive change in a health and/or social care setting
Experience and evidence of engagement around the equality, diversity and inclusion agenda. Able to actively support the development of a culture that recognises and promotes equality, values diversity, and actively leads by example in deploying these qualities
