    Support Engineer

    The System Test Rigs Centre of Excellence, part of the System Engineering department, are responsible for designing and building complex simulation systems that allow railway signalling and control equipment for main line, metro, and light rail projects to be prototyped, integrated, tested and proven in a lab environment.

    The Support Engineer will build cable looms and sub-systems before fitting them to cubicles following detailed designs and procedures.

  • Picking parts based on a given drawing and Bill of Materials
  • Cable assembly using solder and crimp terminations
  • Wiring and mechanical build of assemblies in cases and on rack shelves.
  • Labelling according to drawing specifications
  • Using of small and large workshop tools such as Pillar Drill and Metal cutting equipment.
  • Following Health and Safety guidance and ensuring high standards of organisation within the lab area.
  • Testing and inspection of cables/assemblies built by others

  • Detailing understanding of Module, Cabinet & Cable Wiring, and Electrical Connectors & Terminations
  • Working to Work Instructions, Drawings, Wiring Schedules, Schematics and Engineering Sketches.
  • Understanding of electrical and electronic engineering, product and hardware engineering and configuration management processes
  • Excellent social interaction and organisational skills
  • Motivated, dependable, and self-reliant
  • A Good understanding of databases and systems for records management
  • Excellent numerate skills
  • Familiarity with hardware and software lifecycles, associated tools, techniques and methodologies
  • Experience of materials management, record keeping, equipment and H&S audits
  • Trained in BS7671 wiring regulations

    • Qualifications

    Educated to NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in an engineering, scientific or numerate discipline
