    Senior Internal Communications and Engagement Manager (Interim) GOSH profile Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust (GOSH) is an international centre of excellence in child healthcare.

    GOSH is an acute specialist paediatric hospital with a mission to provide world-class care to children and young people with rare, complex and difficult-to-treat conditions.

    Together with our research partner, the UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health, we form the UK's only academic Biomedical Research Centre specialising in paediatrics.

    Since its formation in 1852, the hospital has been dedicated to children's healthcare and to finding new and better ways to treat childhood illnesses.

    Great Ormond Street Hospital receives nearly 300,000 patient visits (inpatient admissions or outpatient appointments) every year (figures from 2018/19). Most of the children we care for are referred from other hospitals throughout the UK and overseas. the UK's widest range of specialist health services for children on one site.

    More than half of our patients come from outside London and GOSH is the largest paediatric centre in the UK for services including paediatric intensive care and cardiac surgery.

    Through carrying out research with the UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health, University of London and international partners, GOSH has developed a number of new clinical treatments and techniques that are used around the world.

    The UK's only academic Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) specialising in paediatrics is a collaboration between GOSH and UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health.

    We are a member of University College London (UCL) Partners, joining UCL with a number of other hospitals – an alliance for world-class research benefitting patients.

    In partnership with six other NHS trusts, we are the lead provider for North Thames Genomics Medicine Centre, part of the national 100,000 Genomes Project.

    Main purpose of the job This is a new role working closely with the head of internal communications and engagement to lead a small, dynamic team to deliver an effective internal communications and engagement service to support managers and staff across GOSH.

    You will be keen to take ownership responsibility for campaigns, programmes and relationships across the hospital, and experienced in balancing the sometimes-competing priorities that come with this varied workload.

    You'll need to be a creative thinker and excellent project manager with the ability to process highly complex ideas and concepts quickly, turning them into consistent messages that resonate with audiences.

    You'll be running projects and campaigns to deliver a transformative impact on staff culture; developing, delivering and measuring stand-out campaigns, initiatives and projects in support of our strategic priorities and principles.

    At the same time, you'll be fostering more connections, partnerships and collaboration across our hospital through the tactics, channels and approaches you deploy.

    The team is led by the head of internal communications and engagement, to which this post acts as deputy.

    You'll need to be confident to lead communications in crisis situations, working with operational and emergency planning colleagues, providing expertise and guidance using your sound judgement skills to navigate highly complex situations.

    You will develop and deliver a wide range of internal communications to support business critical activity and staff engagement across the organisation.

    You'll work as part of a wider communications team, closely with the hospital's executive leadership team, and with key corporate functions such as HR and operations designing and delivering engagement opportunities for staff.

    You will also work with the clinical leadership teams to support engagement among medical staff, an and coach our internal communications team colleagues, supporting them to grow in their roles.

    • Contribute to the delivery and future development of the internal communications

    elements of the communications and marketing strategy, building a position as a trusted advisor to colleagues and supporting the team in delivering high quality communications for our stakeholders.


    • Ensure internal communications enable staff to understand the Trust's vision, ambitions, and values.
    • Lead the team in developing and implementing a communication strategy for the GOSH transformation programme, interpreting highly complex facts or situations to distil a meaningful narrative for audiences.
    • Lead the team to develop and implement a communication plan for Speak Up and other culture and engagement programmes, using internal communications theory and best practice.
    • Support the head of internal communications and engagement to embed the new intranet and ensure its continuous development.
    • Act as lead internal engagement consultant for different directorates, providing specialist advice on approaches and tactics to help them deliver better internal communications, and sharing knowledge with the team to develop their skills and confidence in this area.
    • Undertake measurement and evaluation, making evidence-based recommendations underpinned by theory/best practice, to make our internal communications best-in-class.
    • Keep up to date with developments in internal communications and the public sector that may influence and affect GOSH.
    Internal communications and engagement

    • Lead on specific projects to drive staff engagement; for projects and campaigns; Lead the team in devising and delivering content in various forms across multiple channels, including leading on staff engagement opportunities.
    • Lead the team in managing our channels, to ensure content is delivered in the most effective and engaging ways.
    • Ensure staff awareness of and alignment with the hospital strategy, priorities, and values, using fresh thinking and creative ideas to turn highly complex and sensitive information into relevant, timely, engaging, and impactful content.
    • Gather insight, and measure and evaluate internal communications activity to ensure ongoing improvement and impactful communications and engagement.
    • Keep abreast of internal communications and engagement best practice, advising the organisation on how these should be implemented to enhance our approach.
    • Be aware of relevant NHS policy changes and work with colleagues to interpret meaningful messages for our audiences.
    Management

    • Manage team members to deliver objectives set by the head of internal communications
    and engagement linked to key campaigns and projects.

    • Monitor any budgets allocated for campaigns and projects.
    • Project manage campaigns and initiatives across the hospital and within the team.
    • Support the head of internal communications and engagement to champion continuous

    improvement within the team, looking at the development of department specific policies and processes and working collaboratively across the whole communications team to improve the service provided, developing and contributing to policy changes and updates as needed.


    • Manage the team's platforms and stakeholder databases, including the intranet content management system and email platform, manage relationships with suppliers and working with procurement, finance and corporate governance teams in the organisation.
    • Deputise for the head of internal communications and engagement, including advising senior leaders on recommended approaches for internal engagement in the case of emergencies or sensitive issues, occasionally navigating distressing or highly emotional circumstances.
