    Team Lead Occupational Therapist- Rehabilitation - Band 7

    We are looking for a highly experienced Occupational Therapist who wants to develop upon their clinical and leadership skills to lead the therapy service at Athlone House Rehabilitation Unit.

    You will be closely supported by the Clinical Therapy Lead as well as the B7 Team Lead Occupational Therapist at nearby Alexandra Rehabilitation Unit (Alex) and B7 Team Lead Physiotherapist based at Athlone House Rehabilitation Unit.


    Athlone Rehab Unit is a 22 bedded unit, offering rehabilitation to adult clients with a variety of conditions/diagnoses including orthopaedics, elderly care and neurological conditions.

    The successful candidate will be responsible for jointly leading the therapy team (alongside the B7 Physiotherapist) at Athlone which consists of an additional 3 Physiotherapists, an additional 3 Occupational Therapists, a discharge coordinator, and a Rehabilitation assistant.

    This post will offer applicants an exciting and challenging opportunity to work with a wide variety of patients, engaging in comprehensive assessment, person centred treatment and rehabilitation.


    We are looking at creating this B7 post as a rotational post between both our units, spending 12 months at Athlone and 12 months at Alex.

    Alex is an 11 bedded unit with similar patient demographics and also offers specialist rehab to bariatric patients.

    Whilst at Athlone the post will focus on developing managerial skills and leading on quality improvement and service development for the units.

    Significant post graduate experience of multidisciplinary team-work in an NHS environment

    Strong knowledge and expertise in working in adult/ older people's rehabilitation in a physical or mental health setting, neuro rehabilitation, acute settings, or community rehab services.

    Significant experience in assessment and screening of cognitive impairments, in particular expert knowledge of delirium, and experience of cognitive rehabilitation would be advantageous
    Experience of working in close collaboration with community services, Social Care colleagues and other voluntary sector organizations in order to deliver safe transition of care from the rehabilitation setting to discharge destination/home
    Experience in directly managing other members of therapy staff
    Experience in service development and in organizing and implementing training/teaching programmes for healthcare professionals and clients

    To be an active member of the bedded Rehab Units, providing a comprehensive, specialist rehabilitation occupational therapy service aimed at maximising functional ability and independence.

    To use advanced clinical skills to lead in the assessment and evaluation of programmes of care for patients who meet the eligibility criteria for the rehabilitation unit
    To provide a high standard of therapy and rehabilitative care to patients using an evidence based approach

    To build and maintain key relationships with referring services to facilitate appropriate referrals and an understanding of the role of the occupational therapy and the multidisciplinary team.

    To be responsible for the supervision and line management of junior staff, including rotational occupational therapists and occupational therapy students.

    To facilitate and lead the team in effective discharge planning processes. Diploma/Degree in Occupational Therapy
    Evidence of CPD relevant to the treatment of adults with physical/cognitive disabilities

    Training in appraisal/supervision
    Post graduate qualification in OT, rehabilitation or other health related topic

    Minimum 2 years relevant clinical experience as a Band 6 OT
    Appropriate clinical experience post registration (including experience of working in rehabilitation at Senior level)
    Elderly people in a rehabilitation setting (inpatients/community)
    Older adults mental health
    Being involved with assessment and implementation of minor and major adaptations to a person's home on the grounds of disability
    Accident and Emergency
    Experience in leading on a quality improvement or service development initiative

    Advanced skills in the assessment and treatment of people with complex multi-pathologies
    Ability to apply core Occupational Therapy skills across a range of clinical conditions within a client centred, goal setting approach
    Ability to design treatment/rehabilitation plans for individuals with complex cognitive presentations.
    Skills in supervision and appraisal of assistants, junior therapists & students
    Presentation skills appropriate for teaching of junior staff, students & peers within an in-service training setting
    Computer literacy - Working knowledge of MS Office applications
    Efficient Time management skills
    Advanced knowledge and understanding of complex medical conditions and applicable rehabilitation
    Knowledge of outcome measures and evidence based practice associated with people with physical disabilities
    Knowledge of recent national policies and legislation relating to health and social care provision
