    About The Role

    We have an exciting opportunity for an Environmental Health Officer to join our Housing Standards (East Team) in Dorchester, part of the Housing and Community Safety group of services at Dorset Council.

    The Housing Standards East team is responsible for carrying out a wide range of duties and roles related to the private sector housing stock in Dorset. This includes the enforcement of the Housing Act 2004, enforcing other associated legislation and bringing long term empty properties back into use.

    The main areas of responsibility will be to carry out inspections of privately rented property, assessing hazards, inspecting houses in multiple occupation, liaising with landlords and tenants to improve the standard of rented accommodation. We also use a variety of tools to bring long term empty properties back into use.

    You will be expected to manage a caseload of reactive, proactive work project based work. To contribute as one team in order to meet the demands on the service by providing excellent customer service, specialist advice and technical support and to promote the work of the Council, its purpose, aims and values. Work within soft geographical boundaries the team covers areas in the East of Dorset's geographical area including parts of the iconic J urassic Coast and east/north Dorset.

    Candidates will have a Degree / MSC or Diploma in Environmental Health and ideally have previous experience of working in an enforcement environment, housing related experience, knowledge of the Housing Act 2004, brining empty properties back into use. You must be customer focused, with a practical mind and enjoy working within a small enthusiastic team of people delivering a wide range of different enforcement services.

    The post is full time, job share may be considered and is subject to agreement by the Service Manager Housing Standards.

    This post requires significant travel. You must have a vehicle (or transport we deem suitable) available for use as needed.
