    A vacancy has arisen for a Band 6 Deputy Ward Manager at Bramley Street Adult Open Community Inpatient Service within the Rehabilitation Division, at Greater Manchester West Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust.

    This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified nurse to join our fast-developing Rehabilitation services, within an environment that promotes positivity, staff development, staff wellbeing and person-centered engagement. It is an excellent opportunity to develop and enhance your existing skills and knowledge and work within an MDT environment, within a managerial role overseeing the quality of care provided.

    The Service provides in-patient assessment, care and rehabilitation for up to 12 male adults with complex mental health needs who require continued inpatient support, discharge and transitional support back to the community following an acute inpatient admission.

    The service provides a multidisciplinary team approach providing assessment, treatment and rehabilitation with an emphasis on recovery principles and integration into the local community.

    We are looking for enthusiastic, motivated, passionate individuals with at least two years post registration experience at band 5 and who have an interest in developing their management and leadership skills; a strong interest in Mental Health Recovery, Rehabilitation, and wellbeing.

    The Successful candidate will be required to work shifts on a rotational basis.

    Main duties of the job

    The role of Deputy Ward Manager involves providing Leadership, Operational Management and Line Management Supervision to the established team on the Unit, supporting the Manager, monitoring clinical standards, undertaking individual projects, and supporting changes, developments, and improvements within the service.

    The post holder will contribute to the assessment of service users, throughout the referral stages and will be supported to contribute to the outcome of these assessments. On admission the successful applicant will help deliver collaborative personalised interventions that are service user, carer, and quality focused. They will support the team to ensure that the interventions delivered are of a high level, quality care and evidence-based interventions within a multi-disciplinary team. The post holder will be responsible for delivering and maintaining high standards of clinical care within the wider team.

    Detailed job description and main responsibilities

    • Pay Enhancements – 30% additional for Evenings (8pm onwards) and Saturdays and 60% additional for Sundays and Bank holidays.
    • 27 days annual leave plus bank holidays rising to 29 after 5 years and 33 days after 10 years
    • Be a registered mental health nurse with current NMC registration.
    • Evidence of Continuous Professional Development
    • Have completed a degree programme.

    Experience

    • At least two years experience at Band 5 or above
    • A genuine interest in Recovery and Rehabilitation
    • Experience of working alongside people with severe mental health problems.
    • Participation in clinical audit to improve quality of care delivery
    • Understands and demonstrates qualities required for a leadership and managerial role.
    • Experience of managing and developing junior staff/Students
    • Demonstrate experience of managing change.

    Knowledge

    • Awareness of current best practice guidance and clinical guidance including relevant NICE guidance.
    • Understanding of principles of risk assessment and management, including positive and therapeutic risk taking.
    • Knowledge of audit processes to improve clinical standards and quality.
    • Clear understanding of the NMC Duty of Care standards.
    • Awareness of research methods and clinical audit.
    • Knowledge of Substance Misuse interventions.
    • Understanding, knowledge and experience of using Recovery model principles

    Skills and Abilities

    • Excellent negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
    • Evidence of working with and involving service users and carers in the care process.
    • Be able to understand the financial management of the unit budget and manage staff resources appropriately.
    • The ability to critically reflect on own practice and that of others.
