    LGBTQ+ Advisory Group Member - Guildford, Surrey, United Kingdom - Surrey and Sussex Police

    Description

    Could you help us to build the trust and confidence between Surrey Police and our communities? We're looking for individuals who live or work in Surrey, are from the LGBTQ+ community or allies with experience and/or good connections to join Surrey Police's new LGBTQ+ Advisory Group.

    During these meetings, we will ask you to share your knowledge and experience to help support Surrey Police.

    The LGBTQ+ Advisory Group meetings will take place every quarter, on a weeknight evening.

    During this meeting it will be discussed with the members where future meetings should be held and whether this be online or in person.

    An online option will always be available.
    The LGBTQ+ Advisory Group will form a valuable link between LGBTQ+ communities and Surrey Police.

    It will comprise of Surrey residents representing and, as far as possible, reflecting the diversity of the communities in Surrey.


    The purpose of the LGBTQ+ Advisory Group is to advance equality of opportunity, foster good relations, inspire confidence, and enhance knowledge between the Police and diverse communities.

    The post holder will be prepared to voice opinion, knowledge, and insight where they can effectively to support the Force on matters to do with LGBTQ+ communities.

    We seek members who are not afraid to challenge and hold us to account in how we operate as a Force to those from LGBTQ+ communities.

    During the meetings, you will be asked to express and explain your own views to others as an individual, or as a representative of your community.

    Volunteering as part of a diverse team, you will deliver key messages to communities with confidence and contribute to the overall success of the group.

    Please note that we are looking for individuals who are independent of Surrey Police and the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC).


    We're looking for individuals who live or work in Surrey, are from the LGBTQ+ community or allies with experience and/or good connections.

    There is no specific experience required for this role, but you will need to have good interpersonal and communication skills to help us form an important link between our force and our communities.


    You will need to have an in interest in policing issues, specifically how these they affect your local area and community and an appreciation of the need for confidentiality and sensitivity in relation to information sharing.


    You will need to have the confidence to discuss, critique, challenge and provide feedback during meetings, and after meetings have taken place, we will ask you to pass on key messages back to your communities if you can.


    To access meeting information and documentation, you will be required to use Microsoft Office programmes and MS Teams, but we are able to provide support on this if necessary.
