    Description
    Mechanical Project Manager – Principal Contractor

    Working in the construction industry has never been easy and it gets worse when you have to work for a main contractor who is out to get you from day one.

    The easy solution to that is work for an M&E Contractor who always act as the principal contractor, sure it means more work for you at the front end (total CDM and CPP creation) but to only report to the client and work on a timeline that you know is sound sounds like a fair trade off, right?     Mechanical Project Manager – What's expected?
    So this project is a chilled water riser replacement in an occupied building.

    As mentioned there is no main contractor and the company are doing all the work floor by floor so planning and preparation will be your friend here.

    You duties as project manager will be similar to what you have done before coming from an M&E sub-contractor (procurement, sub-contractor management, programme creation, financial control) but you'll also need detail CDM knowledge (if you don't have it they can train you in it) as this will allow you to create a Construction Phase Plan (again if you haven't done this before your senior contracts managers / divisional directors will assist) that complies with the law as well as the clients specifications.

    You will have a design, estimation and quantity surveying team to support you in your role as well as site managers / project engineers in the team if you are working on is large enough to support it.

    Mechanical Project Manager – What's needed?

    As with every company they would ideally like some who ticks every box mentioned above but realistically if you are mechanically qualified (trade or academic qualification) and have experience working in a live environment delivering mechanical building services projects then you are in with a chance.

    The full list of what the ideal candidate would look like is:

    • City & Guilds, NVQ, HNC, HND or Degree in Building Services / Mechanical Engineering.
    • Critical Infrastructure experience (Critical plant / Pharmaceutical / Hospitals)
    • Occupied Building / Live Environment Experience
    * 1 years + of project management experience

    • CDM knowledge and experience ideally
    • SMSTS
    • Black CSCS
    • First Aid
    • Full Driving Licence
    What do you get?
    You will receive a salary of £65,000 - £75,000 -along with a package of:
    * £5,000 Car Allowance
